The Old Folks Home

Good thing you never get sick so you can accomplish so much ;)

MAYBE this lesson has taught the dog not help clean the litter box??
I had flu for a week recently but it was not a terrible case of it.

I wish I had your energy level. I need to get a chicken tractor converted over to a pen for three of my standard sized bachelor roosters.

I got it dragged up to the back porch and measured today. Walked out to the metal pile and stared at sheets of siding for about ten minutes. Walked back to the back porch and stared at the chicken tractor for another 5 minutes. Walked around it. Rubbed my chin, walked back to the metal pile and mentally sorted out the pieces I need to use to make it a solid pen. Walked back to the tractor again. Checked the sliding door. Decided where I need to reinforce the wall. Thought about walking back out to the metal pile. Said to heck with it and went inside.

Got my Murray McMurray catalog today. Made out my 'want' list. Decided I can't justify spending 100 dollars on 15 chicks. 3 weeks till Orschelns gets their chicks in here. Can justify 25 dollars for 6 or 8 chicks. :yaDH agrees.

I did two trial orders. One from M McM for 16 chicks, 6 Fayoumis, 5 Red Pyle OEGB and 5 SSDW OEGB. By the time I added vaccination and shipping it was 111$ Cackle, one less chick, same vaccinations and in Missouri shipping....97$ Their Fayoumi's were actually cheaper BUT, straight run. Told DH I'd be just as happy hitting Orscheln's the weekend they get their chicks in with my sample pics for chicks in hand so I can sort through them and try to pick out some OEGB babies. I really need a couple of little boys. In Fact. I'm probably the only person in Macon County who WANTS OEGB rooster chicks.

I cracked one of my Orscheln girl's eggs a few days ago and searched it over with a close up camera lens. It wasn't fertile. I think even my smallest OEGB cross boys are too big to cover them and ummmm hit the mark so to speak. I'm thinking about putting them in my broody pen with the smallest rooster that I have and seeing if he can't get the job done. In the mean time hope to get some true OEGB boys on the job as soon as I can.
