The Old Folks Home

We closed on the Santa Fe place yesterday, and I have a new job... On the final walk-thru we discovered that the previous owner just painted around the large furniture, so VERY visible (as in a different wall color) where the armoires, dressers and bookcases were. I'll be painting for a bit. Too, the Seller took a couple of the chandeliers (fine as they weren't conveyed in the deal) and -- unbeknownst to us -- all the wall-mounted light fixtures AND the medicine cabinet. Thankfully it was a sunny day and the place has skylights so we could at least see. On the bright side, here's a chance to update the place. Hadn't quite anticipated yet another project during a busy time of year where my other home/yard projects beckon.

Free time? What's that? Since retiring I've never been busier.

Heigh ho, heigh ho....

Last week I had my annual wellness check. The doctor said at my age I should put a bar in the shower, so I took his advice.

Great afternoon here. We walked up to the neighbors to see their new lamb. Super adorable little fuzz ball the whole sum of 24 hours old. A little snow white ewe lamb. Mamma's first lamb. They also had a new dog. Somebody from their church was having 'problems' and asked if they could take their dog. In all my almost 65 years, I have never seen a GSD as big as this one is. Griff is 5 years old and the top of his head is at my hips. 5 inch feet and if he wasn't badly underweight he would be an absolute moose. The good thing is that he was as friendly as a pup and was made to be a big family's dog. The kids were crawling all over him and he was lapping up the attention.

I thought my Topper was a big dog but this one makes him look like a dwarf.

I spent the rest of the afternoon working out in the runs, repairing fences. One of the bantam boys managed to get in with the standards and I saw him get in a fight with a rooster three times his size and watched him drag the big boy around the run by the back of his comb. If it hadn't been so painful to watch it would have been funny. Naturally I rescued the big boy and got the mini tyrant back where he belonged. Such impressive little fighters. It's not the size of the bird in the fight but the size of the fight in the bird.
Most of the heritage breeds are not fighters. That is one of the reasons that the anti rooster laws are silly!(Reality check--those laws are not for noise lol..They are for the Sport that we cannot name!).

Be careful! These life changes, both good and bad are stress that can lead to health issues!

(good thing you added the bar to the shower! Great stress reducer)

For about 15 mins. Dh was my hero today. The past few days, there is a group of Sandhill Cranes that have become obnoxious. They're big, loud, and can get aggressive. They're protected here too. I headed out the back door to go to the coop and feed my chickens. They must have seen me, because a minute later, they had followed me out to the coop. The roosters were crowing loudly at the cranes, and the cranes were hollering back even louder. What a ruckus. I tried to chase the cranes off. They would scatter a little, but return quickly. The noisy commotion managed to wake my sleeping husband. He jumped on the tractor, headed out to the coop, and chased them off. My Hero! UNTIL I remembered that a few days ago, he started feeding the stupid birds, and CAUSED the whole problem.
