The Old Folks Home

For about 15 mins. Dh was my hero today. The past few days, there is a group of Sandhill Cranes that have become obnoxious. They're big, loud, and can get aggressive. They're protected here too. I headed out the back door to go to the coop and feed my chickens. They must have seen me, because a minute later, they had followed me out to the coop. The roosters were crowing loudly at the cranes, and the cranes were hollering back even louder. What a ruckus. I tried to chase the cranes off. They would scatter a little, but return quickly. The noisy commotion managed to wake my sleeping husband. He jumped on the tractor, headed out to the coop, and chased them off. My Hero! UNTIL I remembered that a few days ago, he started feeding the stupid birds, and CAUSED the whole problem.

Great story!

Just got back home with 5 new members to the family. They had 7 bantams left. Two were feather legged and by the size of them I would call them cochin bantams. The other 5 were little chipmunks so I'm hoping either BBRs or BBR and SDW. One had a little pasty butt thing going on so I just got that situation cleaned up but they are chirping and active and acting like little tyrants in the making. They have their wing feathers in so they are

Yeah, believe it or not, Ron, the Amish neighbor that I got my starter eggs from got his birds by crossing a OEGB with a Cochin rooster. Some townie approached him with a beautiful black OEGB rooster, dubbed and really pretty and asked him if he would be interested in breeding birds to cock fight for him. Louie turned him down flat but the guy let him keep the rooster. I've seen him roaming around, very nice little bird. With me, the roosters are just dolls and the older roosters are very tolerant of one another but the cockerels are just little monsters.

@Peep_Show congratulations on the new property. I know how excited DH and I were when we bought our first Missouri property. Enjoy. Yes it will be stressful but it will also be a challenge that you will never regret conquering.

I do believe that unless it is stated in the contract the the seller wants to keep certain things in the house, that if it is bolted down, it is supposed to stay.

I know the seller of our house took the toilet paper holder. It's like WT.........:rant

So here are the new members of the family:

We closed on the Santa Fe place yesterday, and I have a new job... On the final walk-thru we discovered that the previous owner just painted around the large furniture, so VERY visible (as in a different wall color) where the armoires, dressers and bookcases were. I'll be painting for a bit. Too, the Seller took a couple of the chandeliers (fine as they weren't conveyed in the deal) and -- unbeknownst to us -- all the wall-mounted light fixtures AND the medicine cabinet. Thankfully it was a sunny day and the place has skylights so we could at least see. On the bright side, here's a chance to update the place. Hadn't quite anticipated yet another project during a busy time of year where my other home/yard projects beckon.

Free time? What's that? Since retiring I've never been busier.

Heigh ho, heigh ho....

now that is one for all of us could use
