The Old Folks Home

Someone finally took the time to punch through the snowmobile trails (and punched through where I walk in and out) between when I took the dog for a stroll along our road this morning and when she decided I was done quilting early this afternoon.

We walked all the way up the trail to the left, crossed the road and continued along until we hit another road, then turned around. Probably could have gone further but it was hard work slogging through some of the areas, where the snow was still really deep and I'd punch through. Went 3.67 miles in all this afternoon, plus another 0.75 this morning along our road. The dog is snoring.

I'm warming my feet up (chose poorly sock-wise for snow in my boots) then going to go choose my next sewing project. Finished a crappy baby panel for someone this weekend. CrazyNeighborLady is pregnant with her 5th child, this one is finally a girl, and she made sure to tell me that plus how far along she was. I didn't make her other kids a quilt, but she did get to choose one I made last summer. I'm just not feeling another baby quilt.
You are a good neighbor!

specially when some is pushing for it I understand and agree
For sure. I SO do not want to do something for someone like that.

Bruce there are good people working in the PO that nobody ever hears about. Your wife is one of them.
True ;) Last week she got a package for someone on a road that doesn't exist. It was going to a business so she Googled it. She works in North Hero, the business was listed in North Hyde Park (~60 miles east). Most likely they are one above the other in the zip code list and whoever addressed it was up one line. She called the NHP PO to see if the business was there and at that address. Yep. So she changed the address and put it on the afternoon truck back to the plant. That sort of thing is more likely in a small office like hers. She is the only official employee, the rural carrier is assigned to the Grand Isle (next town south) PO where the postmaster for both is located.

After that YOU should be snoring right next to her!

Yep, that's the way the ladies are at our post office also. When we were commuting back and forth we rolled in one Thursday night about 5 to pick up the mail in our PO box and had a notice that we had a package to be picked up.Next morning, I called them and told them I'd be right down to pick it up. When I got there and told them we'd stopped by but they were closed for the day she told me the next time they got a package that needed a signature she would just put a key to one of their big lock boxes in our PO box and we could use it to get our package, sign the card and just leave it in our box with the key.

You are so very right. That kind of service just doesn't happen in the big cities but we only have 1300 in our nearest town and yep, super people.

Small town living rules.

Cap doesn't somebody breed birds near by where you live? You might want to check your state's DEPT of AG site for local breeders you could contact. Our site for Missouri looks like this: http://agriculture.mo.gov/animals/pdf/poultry_yearbook.pdf

I would think that some breeder close by would be able to help you out this time of year. I imagine that little one is terrified. Poor baby.

It needs a Cuddle Monkey.

Normally our post office is really good. They've been slipping a bit lately. MIL sent home-made cookies from IN. They got to Tampa quickly. We were expecting them the day after they arrived in Tampa. Nope. They left Tampa, and went to Chicago. After Chicago, they came back to Tampa, then the next day were delivered to us. The cookies got more vacation travels than we did this year.

PO should hire people who know chickens. :yesss: Also other animal types that come through the mail - except of course snakes, rats, mice, giant spiders, lizzards, anything that hisses, bites or could make you scream or drop dead from venom.
