The Old Folks Home

@NotAFarm It may not have been warm enough for swimming, but it looks like your visit was a welcome shot of warm air!

Can you call regional PO? Get number from your local PO. The fellow that gave the package was not the one responsible... and he is not likely to know how this happened nor what to do to fix it.

Yeah, the person you were face-to-face with is probably a low-level local employee, (basically a flunky); dumping on them does nothing more than wreck their day, too (as if the sight of all those dead birds hadn't already). The real issue is further afield.

It's been a few years since I had birds or eggs shipped to me, but we have a person at our local PO who has called me the moment the boxes came in. Worth her weight in gold, in my mind; I'm sorry for all who don't have people like that to work with.

LS and micro, I thought about you as we drove down the interstates near your areas. Nice weather, especially compared to ours.

Have a great Sunday everyone!
Looks like a nice trip!

12 now, low of 6, suns bright and warm though will be mid 30s latter. Almost hit 40 yesterday with the sun, cut a lot of wood getting to the end of the log pile. I should be able to finish it up and be done with it today, whether or not we run out before it warms up. Single digits next few nights :sick
IF we ever get up to spring temps the OWB burns hardly any wood then, but if we're out will just have to use electric heater or propane fireplace to take the chill off mornings. Can't wait till just chilly mornings.
My DW was complaining about how cold it was yesterday...The high was 56. Sometimes we do not know how good we have it.

You should have reached out before you passed and I would have made an attempt to intercept you along the way for a cuppa' and a snack or meal. Glad you had a chance to visit warm(er) weather and walk in the sand while gazing out over open water.

Planted the Spring peas yesterday. Beets starting to sprout. Taking a day or two off from painting to give my knees a rest. Did the two bathroom ceilings and it was gymnastical as the ladder didn't exactly fit square in the bathrooms due to lack of space. Lots of stretching and extending, perching on non-ladder items and gyrating really gave the legs a workout....plus the dang things took 3 coats to get done. It should've been easy, but there are wooden beams running through, so lots of detail work. I will be glad when the rehabbing is done and the place can be used for its intend purpose -- relaxation -- but there's still at about 4 more days of painting, then baseboard installation and trim painting.

Postal incompetence happens... like "mistakes", "happenings" or incompetence with any other huge business enterprise. When I hear about things like this happening it makes me very angry and liable to lash out just like everyone else here. But thinking about it while sitting here, the numbers of "lost" birds is most likely statistically, very tiny to "none" in the grand scheme... to the point that it appears a factor of "doing business". I know that doesn't bring back the dead birds, lessen their suffering, fix the broken eggs, or compensate the seller/buyer for the loss, or make it "acceptable" or right.

It should be reported & followed up on by the PO if for no other reason than to help identify/solve whatever the issue was that caused this particular incident to happen. Many here (including myself) have never experienced a loss of this type and have had good success, PO employees who went out of their way to ensure we got our packages as quickly as possible.

Sorry, just felt this needed to be posted.

I feel like it should be mandatory for live animals to be fed and watered every 48 hours. And the boxes need to be scanned so they can be tracked. The po failed to do that. Tuesday to Saturday is too long for animals to be left to suffer in a box. Cruelty for sure, and neglect.
Solo was doing ok last night, i put a 60 watt bulb in and she climbed up the ramp to be near it. I have not been outside yet. I need my tea and breakfast.
