The Old Folks Home

My Welly eggs are highly specked, even with them being 3 year old layers. Just a bit of trivia but If you scrub the eggs to much when you wash them, the spots rub off leaving them a medium coco color.

I've set Welly eggs when my girls were younger. They are a you know what to candle. Usually wound up in a closet with a high lumen flashlight just to get a hint of what was going on inside. Usually past 2 weeks you may as well give up trying to candle and just hope for the best, at least with my girl's eggs because you can't see anything other than a black blob in them along with the air cell. I still think they are one of the prettier eggs hens lay ranking up there with the blue and green egg layers.

late here My Wellies layed Terracotta colored eggsies with Dark brown speckles... They started out Very dark but lighten as the season goes on. I hear thats normal same with all dark colored eggs....

Most dark egg laying breeds do that with egg color. The Penedesencas did not lose as much as the marans though

Two words my friend:
Ear buds.

I was about to post that they make headphones now. Dh works nights, so I have a wireless set I use when he's sleeping during the day. Being wireless, I'm not confined to cord length, and can walk all over the house.

Our Roku has heaphones that plug into the remote. Apple TV has a blue tooth connection

so are Welsummers as dark of egg as marans ?

Veronica and Betty are Wellies and lay about the color in this picture. Veronica's tend to have quite a lot of darker speckles. Eos is an EE and lays one the color of the Ameraucana shown.

Just gathered eggs for the day. Here are two of my Welsummer girl's offerings. Not bad for old ladies, heh?

I may be prejudice but I think these are pretty spectacular eggs as far as overall color is concerned as for size, probably extra large to jumbo.

Another plus in the Welsummer's favor is they are great foragers. My hens would be blissed out if I let them roam the yard and pasture...they'd be hawk bait, but they'd be blissfully happy hawk bait.
