The Old Folks Home

Glad the power came back on, Cap. Don't worry. A cool down period is supposed to be beneficial to the eggs. Hens do it every day when they get off the nest to do their chicken thing. I live in fear of that happening though. We haven't lost our power for any length of time but my luck is like yours. If it is going to happen it will happen right in the middle of pipping.

If it happened in winter, no problem. I'd just put them near the wood stove and hope for the best. Summer would be a little trickier.

Seems like day 900 without sunshine here. I'm so sick and tired of gray and soggy that I could cry.:hitThey are actually calling for sun on Friday but I'm not holding my breath.

In the mean time, I'm studying for the upgrade on my HAM license. I am starting to think that I am just plain masochistic. I have no idea why I am putting myself through this mental torture other than the fact that it would help when dealing with emergency services. By the time I'm done with it I have the feeling that along with not being able to remember my name or how to open a door, I'll also have forgotten how to chew and swallow food.....sure would make the diet easier...:D

I need more coffee:caf

Looking for dark egg layers?
Eight acres farm Gainesville Fl has Welsummers that lay about as dark as Marans, and the Welsummers are better layers. Sells chicks and hatching eggs. She's on BYC but I don't remember her screen name. A lot of people on here have her birds, about the best German New Hampshire's, Delawares, and Barred Rocks in the U.S.
SandHill has Black Penedescenca's .
I'm pretty sure I've heard Chickencanoe has sold Penedescenca eggs.
