The Old Folks Home

Why was I so anxious for spring to finally get here? Bad girl, bad!

I started planting my started plants today. Got three tomatoes, two zucchinis, two warty red squash and two butternut squash planted and mulched. Tomorrow I'm working on getting pumpkin plants planted.

I am soooo sore. Every muscle I own hurts tonight.

Plus DH and I loaded 15 large rounds of oak onto the tractor (pushing them up hill and into the bucket which didn't help the muscles any.

Penny, glad your eye turned out just fine. You did just what you needed to do. DH said that is what soldiers used to do if they didn't want to go out on maneuvers. They would put hot sauce in their eyes and report for sick call complaining of eye infections..

No big plans for tonight. Think I'm going to sit on the sofa and moan a lot.

Hey, Cap, I wouldn't let a little thing like 'wild' stop me. Several years ago I was fishing at one of our ponds when I saw a hen turkey fly up into the air from ahead of me. Our border collie was with me so I figured she had spooked a bird. I settled into my favorite fishing spot and about 5 minutes later, here came Miss Lucy and she had something in her mouth and seemed too pleased with herself. She is a good dog. I told her to drop and she obediently dropped the egg in my hand. It was a turkey egg. OOPS!

She and I went in search of her find and sure enough, I found a nest with 11 turkey eggs in it counting the one I carefully replaced with the others. I packed up and we vacated hoping the hen would come back. She never did. I went back two days later and the poor eggs were there, quite deceased probably.

If I'd known then what I know now, I would have packed them home and bought an incubator big enough to hold them. I have my home made cooler incubator on standby now incase something like that happens again but nah, wouldn't let a little thing like wild stop me from dragging some poor little abandoned egg or 12 home.

@CapricornFarm! Almost forgot. Doggo's foot finally healed up!:celebrate And you and the Silvadene helped! Dingo says thank you and so do I. I've been worried that he was going to break it open again but so far so good.

He continues to decline. Mainly scoots himself around the house with his front feet and legs. He has very powerful shoulders, thank God, still enjoys joining us for dinner and sits by the stove when I cook hoping I accidentally on purpose drop something on the floor.

Sure thought we would loose him several times over the winter but here it's spring and he's thankfully still with us.

Sounds like he is holding on!

These geese were stuck down there like glue . Nest not abandoned while we were around.
I have raised wild creatures on bottles etc. It can be satisfying but you get much better outcome raising domestics. I am going to try to stick to that.
Um, yeah...its raining again. We may get another inch or more!

Oh, i am so glad! You are really helping him as much as possible. Hugs for both of you!

Dingo gets the occasional steroid at this point and vitamin E daily. He really seems to feel better off the meds than he did on so we go by that.

Degenerative Myelopathy is such a slow acting disease. I told DH the other day that he has been fighting this for so long that I almost can't remember him without it any more. I can still see him running in front of our dirt bikes or the tractor, sprint ahead stop, turn around and look at us with what I can only describe as a big sappy full face smile on his face (yep, he is a dog who smiles) as if saying 'Hurry up you slow pokes!' But that is about it.

Yep, @ronott1, I am definitely a casualty of spring.

I understand, Cap. Just had to tease you a bit. I think we both have probably done our share of wildlife rescue in our lives. Besides, have you seen the news item about the highschool golf team member that was attacked by the Canadian Goose while at a meet? Blasted goose tackled him and knocked him off his feet. Then beat the dirt out of him.

Ya never have a shotgun when you need one.
