The Old Folks Home

Dingo gets the occasional steroid at this point and vitamin E daily. He really seems to feel better off the meds than he did on so we go by that.

Degenerative Myelopathy is such a slow acting disease. I told DH the other day that he has been fighting this for so long that I almost can't remember him without it any more. I can still see him running in front of our dirt bikes or the tractor, sprint ahead stop, turn around and look at us with what I can only describe as a big sappy full face smile on his face (yep, he is a dog who smiles) as if saying 'Hurry up you slow pokes!' But that is about it.

Yep, @ronott1, I am definitely a casualty of spring.

Me Too!

Hey, Cap, I wouldn't let a little thing like 'wild' stop me. Several years ago I was fishing at one of our ponds when I saw a hen turkey fly up into the air from ahead of me. Our border collie was with me so I figured she had spooked a bird. I settled into my favorite fishing spot and about 5 minutes later, here came Miss Lucy and she had something in her mouth and seemed too pleased with herself. She is a good dog. I told her to drop and she obediently dropped the egg in my hand. It was a turkey egg. OOPS!

She and I went in search of her find and sure enough, I found a nest with 11 turkey eggs in it counting the one I carefully replaced with the others. I packed up and we vacated hoping the hen would come back. She never did. I went back two days later and the poor eggs were there, quite deceased probably.

If I'd known then what I know now, I would have packed them home and bought an incubator big enough to hold them. I have my home made cooler incubator on standby now incase something like that happens again but nah, wouldn't let a little thing like wild stop me from dragging some poor little abandoned egg or 12 home.

I probably posted this here before, but awhile ago. My dad when I was a kid found a nest of wild turkey eggs and put them under a Japanese black bantam broody he had right after she already hatched out a bunch of RIRs, sat for a couple more weeks and hatched out several turkeys. I'll never forget how funny it was watching that little black crow size bird with all those turkeys following 'mom' around three times her size lol.
They ended up all dying on him before they were full grown, now that I know a little more about poultry I bet they got blackhead disease.

Those with little girls, @maddysmamaw , ? there is a little bit, one episode of it that was a little bit not oriented for kids, or should not have been IMHO.
Netflix has a new series that is a remake of Anne of green gables called 'Anne with an E'.
Pretty good, I half watched/listened to the first few episodes while playing on the computer, my girls binged watched it till now they are waiting for the second season.
I looked over at one of our girls and noticed she was crying at one point and picked on her, DW spoke up, 'I'm crying also, shut up!!'
Lol.

Very nice Story!

Too bad you did not get to have Turkey Dinner!

so... had to go to a movie with spouse and the kids :sick not too bad actually. ... except that the theater was full of tiny children.

The theater is a hoot... made out of a big quanset hut.

Anyway, movie over, going home...

We came home and 4 of my muscovy were just getting out of the pond as we drove up. :barnie

1 drake and 3 girls....

When they saw us they knew they were in trouble and started going back to the coop.... except for one girl who stood on the bank shivering. :( So kid 3 jumped out of the car and walked up to her nice and slow, talking... and she let him pick her up... he is now playing a video game while she is snuggled in a towel on his lap drying off and warming up. He keeps talking to her to keep her calm....

Our pond is still mostly ice... she must have been in longer than the rest.

Anyway, just a few days back, since most of the snow is melted, we moved the ducks from the big main coop back to the duck coop (we had consolidated for ease of winter chores). Turns out that we should have done a bit more repair work first  hence the escapees.
