The Old Folks Home

I had a BYC member from Oklahoma send me a package of those Egyptian walking onion plants. DW about flipped completely berserko that I gave our address to some stranger online who was probably a serial killer...
I pick up hitchhikers also (when I'm by myself not with family) even picked up one I wasn't sure of on a back road dressed in full camo with a backpack, hmm, he doesn't have a gun this is strange.... Turned out he was out digging ginseng and ended up on the wrong side of the mountain miles from his truck.

Hahaha... funny.. I do the same, I pick up hitchhikers too.. A couple of months ago I picked up a guy, I was on my way to the bar to have a couple of beers.. He asked where I was headed, I told him: "nowhere, I'll take you where you are going, I'm just going down the road to have a beer" He had not had a beer in months, so I bought him a couple of beers and took him near his destination.. Having said this, I do have a 9mm I keep in my console between the seats on my car, and do have a carry/concealed permit.. My advise: If in doubt, KEEP GOING, don't stop for anyone, keep your car doors locked at all times.. :thumbsup

I'm with you, Penny. I'm not nearly as trusting of strangers as I used to be.

Got back from the timber at 1pm. Last winter a big 24 inch diameter red oak fell down across our north fence line. It was on our neighbor's property and as luck would have it it bridged the fence without crushing it. The tree had collapsed from where it had stood on the edge of the ravine behind our property and wedged itself against a tall hickory tree. We knew we had to make the tree go away but didn't quite know how to approach it till this morning when DH announced that he had woken this morning with the solution to the fallen oak in his head.

To make it short his idea worked. I collapsed the barbed wire fence and he was able to use the tractor and some well chain sawed areas on the tree in order to pull it down.

The highlight of the whole operation happened when we were working on chaining the tree into rounds and suddenly a huge spider probably quarter sized all together, body and legs came scurrying out from under some separated bark. It was a humongous black widow spider. You could plainly see the hourglass markings on it. It was the first one I had ever seen before and DH and I both stood with our jaws hanging as it ran across the length of trunk we were working on and disappeared into the undergrowth. I asked DH if that was what I thought it was and he nodded.....and moved to another section of trunk to work. Neither of us wanted to be too close to the area occupied by that spider.

Unfortunately we just got started on harvesting the tree and I didn't have my camera with me. Tomorrow morning when we head back there, I'll make sure I have it with me.

I have to add that there is a certain trusting that goes with belonging in these forums.. I belong to numerous ornamental tropical fish forums.. I breed and sell tropical fish over the internet, I've ship fish to Tampa, and I go there once or twice a week; and I've also shipped fish as far as Yakima and Seattle, WA.. Also, I'm proud to live in Lakeland, Fl. I want all to know, I live in a place where I can go sit by the lake and read a good book..

I had a member of BYC come over to the house to pick up Larry, my drake.. A very decent and cordial visit.. There is a member of one fish forum (Guppies.com), from OH, he's coming to Orlando, FL. for some business meetings next month, we're going to get together for dinner, it'll be nice to meet someone I interact with daily in a forum.. Also, I'm going to NYC in August (I spent every August in NY), there I'm going to get together with two Marines who served with with me in Beirut, Lebanon.. Haven't seen them in nearly 40 yrs, it will be some kind of emotional, I lost too many frs.. I served for 4 months in Vietnam '73 and 11 months in Beirut '76-'77.. My Marine Corps experience is a story for another day..

My point: I couldn't live a normal life if I had to mistrust everyone I meet from the get.. I think I can afford to give the benefit of the doubt to start with.. Then again, "Everybody is Normal 'till You Get to Know Them"; right??

That's as bad as the one where they call, or text to tell us our debit card has been compromised. They need the number on our debit card to confirm it's one of the accounts on their list. Yeah, right. Another scam.
Had this happen. He wanted the code number on the back of the card. I asked him 3 times what this was about. He just finally put me on hold after telling me that I needed to talk to someone else since I did t understand. :D

don't and answer the phone to unknown numbers. A real person will leave a message
Oh, they left a message! I didnt answer because I didn't know the number. Thought if it was important, they would leave a message. I actually called back. Supposedly something wrong with my account. I blocked the number after be put me in hold. :p

I just don't answer numbers I don't recognize!! And, should it happen that I do pick it up and someone starts by telling me about my CC or Bank Accnts.. Sorry, I don't even have time to say shit to you much less whait to talk to your supervisor.. See? Just hang it up and block the number.. I get calls all day long it seems for last couple months.. If you don't say: This is so or so from BYC, then I know you know I belong to a chicken grp, now I want to know HTF you got my number? Right? We are good, k?? ;):)
