The Old Folks Home

I would say the nubian should give you both size and milk production, but you don't have to make up your mind before you (or Bernie) sees them.

Linda - Why did you go with the ADOR this time? Your other door is a Pulletshut, right? Are you not happy with your Pulletshut? I have one and love it, but if you are having trouble with yours, I'd like to know........
I dont really care about cute factor but I would like to have it on farm when I am there at thanksgiving.

Nubians will probably handle climate better also.

I found a guy on our island that sells dairy goats

He has purebred Saanens, Nubians and La Mancha.

The bucks start at $215. F2 with local goat starting stock are $170.

I just paid $40 for a largish local doe that is 7 months of age.

What breed do you think I should go with? I am thinking either Nubian for size or Saanen to boost milk production faster,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I am not looking to have a bunch of pedigrees but a half a dozen good milkers that we can use to produce 8-10lbs of cheese.

The nubians are the best milkers for taste and butterfat but they are loud. Obnoxiously loud. And then some.

I don't have any experience with Saanens.

I do have a LaMancha, and I adore her. She's sweet and quietish and I love the little elf-ears. I am keeping the nubian doeling I have plus the LaMancha, but I think I am going to go more towards LaMancha than Nubian, unless I can't stand the milk taste.

Just got back from urgent care and the PA was really impressed with the mess that is my throat and mouth. I have red dots, bruising and sores all over. The rapid strep test came back negative, which shocked her, so she stuck me on antibiotics, anyway, and did a follow up culture to confirm or rule out another group of strep. If that comes back negative, her diagnosis would be viral mono based upon what my mouth looked like. How lovely for me.

Mono sucks. I got it randomly just before I came to the US. It makes a strep throat feel like sucking a menthol.

Loud is ok. We have enough distance from where the goat shed will be to the house.

Nubians are more common there too so it looks like they will win.

The guy wants my Jersey Giants so next year I will trade a few for my second buck.

If this is mono, then I am impressed with its force.

I have never felt my throat like this, and I am no stranger to URIs, working in a hospital and having an adventurous immune system that is all kinds of into trying new things.

I woke up at 0330 this morning because my around the clock acetaminophen and naproxen had worn off (and max daily dose on both). I was almost brought to tears with the pain. I got the PA to write for some viscous lidocaine which helps but not as much as I was hoping.

My goat book says that Saanens have less butterfat on average than a LaMancha: 3.5 to 3.9% but Saanens tend to produce slightly more milk per goat than LaMancha. Nubians produce the least amount of milk for any of the dairy goat breeds, but their average butterfat is quite high, 4.5%.

Seems like they all have something good going for them. Go with which one you like the looks and temperament of.

Yes, I believe they where all destroyed.
The last I heard of it was that the sentence had been set and was final but I wasn't sure when it was happening.
All your help was joined in with everything and we managed to get the people to hold of the first sentence. Then we manged to get them retested, but when they retested more Salmonella was found so they just decided to destroy them

I have WLH's, RIR banties, Frizzle, Wyandotte, Langshans, Sex-Links, Marans and 1 Runner duck.

Hope it isn't mono. Getting mono sucks but at least they medicate heavily for it.
When I was on my worst day of my sore throat, I called my cousin who is an MD and made him make a house call because I was too sick to move (the only day I took off work with it) he took one look at my throat and gave me 100mg Demerol IM.

That took care of it for 4 hours.

That was Friday. By monday I was still spiking 101 fevers then have sweats but was able to drag my butt into work.

It took 2 weeks for the fevers to stop. My liver was palpable 5 cm below my ribs and my enzymes took a year to normalize.
