We caved to the heat and humidity. It's only in the mid 80s but the humidity is in the mid 70s and that sun is blazing. Dh has been brush hogging the pasture and where he had mowed I could just feel the heat radiating up from the grass on my legs.
We did manage to get the last of the Black Locust cut up and hauled back to the barn. We have both Black Locust and Honey Locust. I'd much rather deal with the black than the honey. At least the black doesn't have the brutal thorns. They both put out some serious BTUs though as far as heating is concerned so we always trying to harvest one or two and use the wood on the really cold nights.
By the time we got the bucket loaded we were both pretty cooked. We were at the bottom of a hill and no breeze was hitting us. Even the dogs found shade and flopped down. Sitting in the AC drinking a glass of ice water and trying to cool down.
@ronott1, you and yours please stay safe. Sorry to hear that you folks are starting the wildfire season early this year.
It's dry here but not nearly as dry as it is out there. We were wondering today if it was too dry to shoot off fireworks here tomorrow night. Since the pasture has been brush hogged and dried it's pretty combustible.
@drumstickdiva and
@MrsMistyReal, thank you for the well wishes. I'm so glad that I moved the broody inside even though it is a bit of a hassle. She is comfortable and her eggs are doing well. This is Betty's first brood and she is very dedicated to her eggs. I've seen her off the nest twice so far and finally had to start holding food and water under her little beak to get her to eat and drink. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well for her hatching out 5 healthy little fluffy butts.
My disastrous 4 hens co-brooding chicks turned out to be 4 pullets and 1 cockerel. The pullet god was smiling down upon me this time. Dare I hope for a repeat?
@getaclue, how wonderful that the kids have adults like you to take care of them. My parents would never do anything like that. I can remember my brother and I sitting up til 1 or 2 AM watching horror movies together but we were in our teens at the time, What fun that would have been!
