The Old Folks Home

Arielle, I did get the hay put up a couple of weekends ago. My computer has been on the fritz and I had to take it in. The hard drive was going bad. Thank goodness they were able to get all of my pictures off it and onto an external hard drive.
I'm sure you did get all that hay in weeks ago--- winter is almost setting in for you! Unless you have had some snow already?

Glad the pictures were saved.

I So Wish I could still hear snow falling or ice cracking when you pour salt on it   . Way too many trips to  aircraft running jet engines in the Air Force back in the early 70's.

Scott, I am an Air Force veteran from the sixties. My ears ring constantly.

Quote: Once upon a-time I used to live in a place called the U.P. of MI . Lake Superior did freeze all the way over the 1st winter, not a good winter, even the locals were upset! I know about the season known as winter and how long it can last!

You must have been stationed at KI Swayer AFB. My snowy winter was at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, IL

I think I need an intervention. Today after work I am going to look at some more unwanted hens....and ducks. Some 4 H kid is switching to cows and his mom is sick of taking care of his birds so these are at least young and healthy not sick and old like the last batch I brought home. That is an improvement ....right.

Snow is especially beautiful when it isn't yours! SCG ugh, poo snow pictures - ugh weatherman says we could have first flakes on Tuesday and Wednesday. I am so happy NOT!!

Sorry I had to break out the outdoor air conditioning pictures, y'all.

Sounds like you are having an intervention - for the kid!
Why would the mom bring an insanely large animal on board if the kid was ignoring the small, easy to care for birds? She's going to find herself with Bessy a lot in the upcoming months, I think.

I have slept so much. I have to go back to work tomorrow and I'm actually nervous about making it though the day without a nap.

4 more cockerels went to the Ranch this morning. A fifth took the ride, but rode home with me again. He's got a lame leg, and the boys who had been there since yesterday ganged up on him the moment I put him in the coop. Luckily, the bad boys scattered when I moved toward them, so I just scooped him back up and brought him back home.

I think I will move him - maybe - when I bring over a slew of pullets at one time. (I don't want to take just a few girls which would have to deal with the horniest cockerels in the Universe whilst they have to be cooped up without access to the run. Safety in numbers, perhaps?) The lame cockerel does fine at the Homestead because the coop is so huge; he roosts about mid-range on one of the two wide ladder roosts. Here, he is not the lowest of the low in rank.

There are about three more crowing fellas to relocate, not counting Carl. I think.

So far, I have boxed up the chickens without assistance. I may box the next batches at night instead of right at dawn.....
