The Old Folks Home

Just jealous I guess. It has been around 106 here in East Texas. The grass has died, the flowers have died, the trees are drooping, the chickens are panting and I just stay inside under the AC. I water the yard three times a week and it is still yellow. The chicken yard has turned brown and all of the grass is pretty well gone. I put frozen water bottles in the waterer and give the chooks cold cucumbers, frozen strawberry tops and cold watermelon rinds to help with the heat. I would do a naked dance in the street if I thought it would cause rain to fall.
That naked dance is very effective, but you may get more than rain!:lau

I think they term it 'invasive' since it is not a native plant. It is nothing like kudzu, stilt grass, autumn olive or some of the others. This stuff has been around since I was a kid, and it's difficult finding enough plants to pick any quantity of berries.

Plants appear to be spread by birds eating the berries and then defecating and spreading the seeds. Not certain if it spreads vegetatively.

Sounds like Thimbleberries, very tasty but hard to find enough to do more than eat them as you pick. They are native thought. I know where there is a really good stand, but it is invaded with poison ivy which I can't get close to.
