The Old Folks Home

Thanks. I'll have a look for one.

I made baby food for all my kids but I used a blender.
I cooked our meals and before I seasoned the food I took some out and put it in the blender.
Worked great.

THis is how we should be feeding our kids. I picked up a book (The Dental Diet) and we are not feeding our kids correctly these days and it results in poorly formed jaws, and crowded teeth. Not genetic. ALL DIET. Jaw needs lots of CHEW time, and lots of K2-- a forgotten nutriet. I quit flouridated toothpaste and just use baking soda.

His book is well worth reading for folk with children or to share with parents of your grandchildren. He is a dentist that got distressed over the number of teeth he was pulling. And found all the info dental school fails to teach and put in an an easy to read book.

I would be worried about a phone on a scout camp trip like that too. Make sure to pay for insurance!
Track Phones are CHEAP compared to what I hear others paying for theirs. $100 at most for a track phone vs 500$ plus for high end phones. A good learning phone for a teen. But the lesson was that even $100 is not to be wasted. MOM was NOT happy that day. ANd I made a big deal out of it to impress the value of $100.....

Another really great thing about those type squash Micro is that they'll keep for almost a full year with care. Just put in a cool, dark, dry place and it'll be waiting for you to use it come spring. LOVE Hubbard squash! One of my favorites. Used to grow them up in New England as a child. Some would grown to absolutely monstrous size. I couldn't pick them up.
yup. i have kept winter squash on the steps headed to second floor, room temp and dry. Most last thru end of spring... depending on the variety.

awful about the phone getting trashed

But this isn't just a matter of staying in touch... my kids have traveled and camped without phones... kid 2 worked away all summer without one (and last year too), so over 2 months he only got ahold of me once. no problem.

They haven't had phones of any kind.... I just trust them to come home eventually. :old

But this trip they are supposed to use an app for a map, (and they need the app, a real map won't do, because where they need to go changes depending on where everyone else has been) ... and for recording stuff... Spouse showed me... it is pretty involved.
Given the app for the mapp I can see the issue. Can he buddy up with another scout ?? My kids earn their scouting money. Generally speaking. But sometimes other expenses do arise. Tough call. Maybe talk to leaders about options.....?

Hopefully I'll get a chance to try wine berries sometimes, but if it is invasive I probably should not try to grow any here

I think they term it 'invasive' since it is not a native plant. It is nothing like kudzu, stilt grass, autumn olive or some of the others. This stuff has been around since I was a kid, and it's difficult finding enough plants to pick any quantity of berries.

You could grow it in a bucket with holes drilled for drainage.

Plants appear to be spread by birds eating the berries and then defecating and spreading the seeds. Not certain if it spreads vegetatively.

It didn't rain here yesterday. That's a big deal here this year. I can count on my left hand the number of days it has not rained in the past two months.
Just jealous I guess. It has been around 106 here in East Texas. The grass has died, the flowers have died, the trees are drooping, the chickens are panting and I just stay inside under the AC. I water the yard three times a week and it is still yellow. The chicken yard has turned brown and all of the grass is pretty well gone. I put frozen water bottles in the waterer and give the chooks cold cucumbers, frozen strawberry tops and cold watermelon rinds to help with the heat. I would do a naked dance in the street if I thought it would cause rain to fall.
