The Old Folks Home

I ordered a glucose test kit off Amazon to check it regularly to see how it goes. If it stays high I will go back and see what they suggest.
:( Wish you had mentioned that before you ordered. I have the one I used for the cat we had to put down a few weeks ago, 50 strips too and those things ain't cheap. Would have happily shipped it to you.

Mary made the Ice cream carton avatar but, my doctor has been threatening me to cut back on that so maybe out of sight out of mind. I thought it was perfect

I had a few Conehead pictures, used to use one I think with a carnation in the mouth.
Thought this was sexier BUT, on the old site pictures used to come out larger ?? This cut off a lot of comb :(. Well it has to do for now. My son was mad that I asked him to put up the conehead - he did it remotely from several states away.

I thin I should change my avatar again soon!

Gotta keep everyone on their toes

Very exciting. :wee

About 4 days back the eggs under our bantam hens started hatching. 2 pure bred Wheaten Ams hatched.. 1st time mom was slow getting the hang of things.. and 1 of the other hens looked like she was going to hurt the chicks....

So I put mom and 2 chicks in the top of my green tractor... the breeding quad in there are now having to sleep on the ground under the elevated coop..

But then 2 days later another chick hatched... a blue, and mom wanted nothing to do with it.

So we picked up a different broody bantam and swapped. New mom was happy... older white chicks kept screaming "not my mom" little new blue was happy.

I kept stuffing the white chicks under mom....

Finally things settled down... all happy.

Then this morning 1 more chick hatched under the bantam broody pile.

This one a black. No problem... this time the addition worked smoothly.

Just was on a thread where a person moved from PA to texas. The hens have stopped laying and one died today. The person gave more information and....no chicken feed is given to the flock! They only get to free range and eat "grain" which usually is cracked corn. The hens have not laid eggs in 4 weeks!

The flock is 5 hens. Why do people do this? The Egg farmer I was working with did this in the winter. His hens did not start laying for quite some time in the spring.
