The Old Folks Home

Yup, nothing more protective than a hen with one chick! My bantam, Betty is on week 6+ with her bunch. She tries to go outside and they stay in the coop crying their little hearts out so she runs back inside and offers them treats. Sleeps with them in a nesting box at night. Such a good mamma.

Penny so glad you are feeling better. Remember not to over do it. It takes a while for your lungs to recover from pneumonia and for you to get your strength back.

Fall...I drool over the word. It's about 90 gazillion degrees outside today. We have rain forecast for Tuesday then cooler weather with temps in the high 70s low 80s. I know it can be deceiving around here though. Could still see a week or two of hot weather. Usually warm till the middle of Sept. But in the mean time, the robins and Jenny wrens are gone and the hummers are staging dog fights over the feeders. So much fun to watch them.

I'm feeling better this afternoon. Still don't feel like running a foot race but not laid out on the couch either so I'm hoping the worst of this round is over......till next week.:hit Hope I sleep better tonight. You too Penny!

As for snakes. I have a rule. If I encounter one, stamp my feet and throw things at it and it retreats, it can stay. If it coils and strikes, it's dead meat where it lies. I won't risk any animal threatening and biting our dogs or cat that go outdoors. We can always walk around them but the dogs are idiots and the cat is clueless and 18 years old.

I am happy to hear that you are better!

We don't act that way around a coiled up rattle snake! That is a sure way to get a deadly bite!

Yes, THE TURKEY, somehow lost her chick today. She had it mid-morning, then this evening she's back on her nest and a turkEN is raising the chick.
