The Old Folks Home

How is your dog doing, Micro?
Thanks for asking, Cap. He's not doing so well. The DM continues it's course. His back legs are completely useless now. He still scoots himself around the house using his front legs but we can tell that it's getting harder for him. His voice is weaker and he's starting to have problems controlling his bm's. He's well into stage two of the disease now and has been fighting it for 2 years. Dogs never go past the three year mark with DM and usually don't last much longer than 2.5 years due the loss of bladder and bowel control.

He's still Dingo personality wise and still has his sense of humor. Last night DH went to help him outside and Dingo just didn't want to go.(we try to keep him on a schedule) DH had him up in his lift assist and Dingo kept trying to pull him backwards. He finally flopped down on the floor so his butt was in the air and and his front end on the ground and he was just wearing the happiest grin on his face like he was saying 'don't want to can't make me!'

It's just so hard to watch such a good dog decline the way he is. Like Marek's the sooner somebody finds a cure for it the better I will like it.

So sorry, that is miserable! Hugs.

Thanks guys. It's hard, especially when we remember the 'old' Dingo who was galloping from one end of the property to the other without panting, barking his head off, chasing anything that moved and generally raising cane. He in spite of everything that is wrong with him is a happy dog. Except he can't walk anymore. We thought about getting him in a doggy wheelchair and even made a prototype for him but he got so enthused with it that he rolled it on uneven ground now won't have anything to do with it. We are thinking about trying him with it again to see if he will tolerate it better now.

Thanks Chicka and Penny. Spent this afternoon mowing. Pretty wiped now. No energy thanks to the Methotrexate. Any exertion just knocks me flat. Think I'm gonna make supper and kick back, zone out and stare into space.

Got on the phone with Verizon today and told them about our lousy service. Getting a new phone, a Samsung S8 that works off of our WIFI. WIFI is getting upgraded by Hughesnet to Gen 5 so once we get that on line we will journey into K'ville and get the phone. We tried to get a land line from Hughes net but they kept talking in circles about cost, dependability, etc.

Sometimes you are just better off sticking with the devil you know......unfortunately.

How do you guys get rid of wasp nests near your coop? I had a giant one that I took on today with my electric fly swatter. Killed three wasps, chased off the other 2 and destroyed the nest. Didn't get stung which was a miracle as I really pee'd them off. But I didn't want to use wasp spray that close to one of the coops vent windows.

Good job on the nest!

My Dad would shoot the nest with a shotgun in the orchard.

Hairspray at night will kill them pr detergent with water although the hairspray will have a longer spray
Though wasps can't be prevented 100 percent, there are some ways to make sure that the chance of more coming back is lowered. Wasps aren't fond of mint so using mint-based essential oils can help keep them at bay. Try growing different variety of spearmint, mint and peppermint around your home.

An essential oil spray can be used around the home to prevent more wasps from coming back. Combine lemongrass, clove and geranium essential oils into a bottle of water and spray the mix around. If you live in an area where there are a lot of wasps in other nearby gardens, try spraying every other day and having mint plants near windows and doors, as well as near every corner of the home and garden.
