The Old Folks Home

Fall is here, too. It's what I call "Yellow Season". The yellow wildflowers are blooming, the trees are turning yellow (not many pretty red or orange ones here), and the crops are ripening - the soybeans' leaves are all yellow, and the corn is turning brown.

I call it the "Season of Gold and Purple". Right now golden rod, a wild yellow daisy, and two types of aster are blooming down at the beagle club. It's a pretty time, but ---------------------------------

Haven't seen any migratory geese yet though which is fine with me!
Too early for that.

Already did that!:caf

DH teases me and tells me I'm acting like an old person:old. Of course, he's two years older than I am so when he nods off he hears the same thing from me.:gig
It is called "resting your eyes".

No trouble to be had.
:thumbsup Beautiful place, never been there. I did wave in your general direction about 11:30 Sunday on our way down to Pico. Went back up the interstate so not close on the return trip. And I thought about you when we went past the HUGE!!! cemetery in Bangor. Must be more dead people in Bangor than live ones. That one doesn't look like it needs your services.

I was very surprised when I visited Missouri that there were no fences between properties. Here in California, fences are everywhere!

Fences make good neighbors.
If I lived in town I'd have a fence. Fences and posted signs are frowned upon here, only city people post their property and fences are for farm animals barb wire or electric. Really can't think of anywhere I've seen any kind of residential fence. Even dogs are free ranged, been lucky with them, haven't had any bad dogs, few that do visit on occasion must be used to chickens or are just good dogs cause they don't bother them even when they are out.

Then a roll of 2x4x48" welded wire around the garden should alleviate most of the issue. should keep the rabbits out as well.
I actually had bird netting up around it last fall through winter and one group of chickens in it, took it down. It's a sizable garden, last check was 60'×80' pretty sure little bigger now, keeps expanding. I did away with it and chickens one yr and grew nothing , then watched 'Food Inc.' highly recommend it. Wasn't going to watch it cause I'm not into that crap, glad I 'accidentally' watched it one day cause it was actually wasn't political just the truth of where we are food wise in the world.

We have field wire all around the property had ticha when we moved here he could walk through the field wire bought 6 150 ft rolls 1 inch chicken wire ran that inside the field wire one end to other in the chicken yard there is the bird netting over the top ran in into trees or chicken wire to hold it up but also keeps mine in

Our hummingbirds are usually gone by mid-September, also. For some reason, I only have two of them this year, and they're so busy fighting over the feeder, they don't have time to eat! I think part of the reason we're not seeing them at the feeder so much this year is, we have an 84-acre field right by the house that is filled with pollinator friendly plants. They may be busy out there. I have actually put my finger under the feeding port of the feeder and had them sit on it to eat. I love those little birds, and look forward to their return every May.
We get loads of hummers, and they do fight over the feeder. I have had hummers drink out of the feeder while i was trying to hang it back up after refilling it!
