The Old Folks Home

Morning everyone hope all are safe this morning lack of things on shelves Alaskan refers to with basics like milk and produce or frozen foods most take for granted 80's to early 90's it was that way in Juneau also
We still have a little of that...

The shipment is often late... you show up to the store and there is ZERO grated cheese or inexpensive cheese blocks. Or the freezer is wonky again.. so no ice cream for a week.

So here we all go again; watching the forecasts, doing our prep, and praying it'll be unnecessary.:fl
Pump up the inflatable life raft!

I've seen mud to the hubcaps on it so we are just going to sit tight and hunker down.
Good plan.

The lack of sunspots is also why they are now predicting a very cold very wet winter this year into 2019.
But the woolly bear caterpillar I saw was light with NO banding at all. Someone said that meant a mild winter. Who is in charge here, the sun or the caterpillars?

HAM operators keep an eye on the sunspot activity, no pun intended, because they affect the bandwidths and radio signals
See how much you learned about radio!!!

It will be sunny here but there is a new fire North of Redding

Stay safe Chicka! They are saying if Gordon stays on track he will be in Missouri over the weekend. The last time I checked the weather they were saying possibly 7 inches of rain or more. Too much too late for the local farmers and luckily we sit on top of a ridge with the nearest water at the bottom of the hill so we aren't worried. I did go into town this afternoon for feed, medicine and icecream, you know....the necessities.

I have that same feeder also. I went out during a lull and took this picture.

Naturally I come in and look out the window and tehre are too many to count at the two feeders. I can always tell the young birds. They try to feed from top of the feeder, the bottom of the feeder, the glass. They finally catch on. They have been pretty peaceful with one another but I'm starting to see them fighting in the timber in the background.

DH just took these pictures for me. You can tell who is the better photographer in the family!

You can see the silly bird trying to drink out of the top of the feeder. One in every group, LOL!
Love them! Great photos!

Haven't had time to read back, will maybe tomorrow. Busy.
Have had one of my JG/NN crosses escaping the coop every day. Clipped her feathers one side, then the other...still getting out of a six foot fence. Was about ready to cover the run. My NN are easy to contain four foot fence no netting, the JG are notorious for escaping anything, they say they are easy to contain cause they are so big but they have always been my worst, this girl must follow her JG ancestry lol. Yesterday I couldn't find her to put her back in the coop, figured the young fox I've seen around had a nice meal...ugghh, down to one pullet now..
Ehal hatch, didn't think they were laying, haven't seen any eggs from the two and the one I accidentally processed had just the start of little tiny egg yolks inside of her.
Was pulling up big weeds around my garage next to a wild azalea, pinxter bush...WTF!... I'm back to two girls, lol!

:yuckyuck

I've seen all colors of woolly bears, all dark, no bands. Idunno Bruce but the last time I looked the sun was in charge, of course today it's grey and foggy so who knows. I think Tropical Storm Gordon trumped Sol.

As for what I've learned about radio, so true. I've got so much radio technology crammed in this old head that I have lost the ability to remember how to open a door or use a fork.:gig:lau

5+ inches of rain is what we've been getting at least weekly, and sometimes every 3 days, for 4 months now. We went a day without rain on the 1st. Rained lightly on the 2nd., but we've got heavy tropical storms moving in tonight with heavy rainfall until at least Monday. We'll get a minimum of 6 inches of rain from that. Roads are flooding, yards are flooding, ditches are overflowing, the riverbanks are overflowing in some areas, and more rain headed our way. Yay......NOT!
Florida, right? I lived in Florida when I was young. Rained a bit almost every day. Hence, the humidity, as you well know. Don't remember getting a huge amount of rain at once unless a storm was heading our way..hurricanes. I had fun swimming in the ocean when we lived there. Fernandina Beach....walking distance for us to the Beach. :)
