The Old Folks Home

Yeah, but Penny! You have Cascadia to the west and the Yellowstone Caldera off to the east. What you miss out on with Hurricanes and Tornados you make up for with the ground potentially rockin and a rollin.

There isn't a place you can live where it is perfect. We put down roots where our hearts tell us to and there we grow and deal with whatever ma nature throws at us.

Cap so glad the tree missed the turkey coop. Are you otherwise riding out Florence safely? You and Bunnylady have been in my prayer that the storm is kind to you.
Yes, we have been very lucky so far. I have seen harder rain on an afternoon shower in FL than what we have had today.

kinda different why what would motivate someone to do that ... Cap really happy it missed the coops and your not flooded
Me too! I just went out with my boots and raincoat to collect eggs and shut everything up. Thanks for thinking of me. How are you tonight, Penny? I am getting ready to go out to the workshop again. I spend at least an hour out there most nights.

Back and alive...

Thankful to have humidity again. Got a nosebleed every single day there.

The dog was actually happy to see me, too.

False Kiva, Canyonlands NP. It was closed because people are destroying it. Still great to see though, from this distance. Getting to it was hairy at times.View attachment 1535411

House on Fire, Bears Ears. Really really neat to see. Not closed yet but people are destroying it, so I'd guess it will be closed soon. Not sure why people can't be respectful, but this is why we can't have nice things.View attachment 1535413

Beautiful pics! Thanks for sharing!

SGC your pictures are beautiful. What a wonderful place to vacation. I'm a big rock hound so I would be in hog heaven there.

We have an amazing array of birds here. Everything from tiny hummers and Jenny wrens to bald eagles. I think my favorite time of the year is May/June here when all the song birds are singing their brains out in the early morning. Since there are so many farm ponds and lakes we have a lot of aquatic birds, ducks, heron, egrets etc. Since we are about an hour from the Mississippi River we get eagles moving inland in the winter looking for food and I think I read where there are 4 active eagle nests in our county so some stick around to breed. They don't cause nearly the problems that the hawks cause though as far as chickens are concerned. There are also a large number of vultures to be found.
We have a huge variety of birds here, too. I discovered the joy of birdwatching from my mother in law, and now one of my daughters in law loves it, too! After visiting here and seeing all the birds at my feeders, when she and DS bought their house one of their first purchases for it was a bird feeder and shepher's hook to hang it from.
