If you film the Dachshunds you have to Film the Bassets hunting Rabbits....
Had a female blue tick beagle mix when I was a kid, ran a lot of rabbits with her. She was short and fat beagle size, ran slow worked good with rabbits. Was given a Bassett hound, my dad was partners in a bluestone quarry with a guy whose wife was a school teacher and had another teacher who was moving and couldn't take their pup, pure bred basset and they gave it to me. Tried running rabbits with it, they have the second best nose to the bloodhound. Didn't work out to good, he didn't like brier bushes blackberries, raspberries, rose bushes and such, walked around them instead of through them like the little girl did, and he tripped over his ears a lot, Lol. And he was gun shy, probably could have cured him of that if I knew how back then, but dang he never made a rabbit dog.
Fast forward yrs, when we got together dw and me, my first pure bred beagle, rabbit assassin I hunted about every day, we picked up another from her uncle, a little girl. Hoped to have pups but it never happened. Bucky died of old age shortly after we bought the house, Abby is about 15 now, I think her time is limited.
Ha!, dw picked on me when we moved here, took them out hunting like I always did, they ran some rabbits, dw watched me carry them back up the road after.. .
My boy is six now, will get back into it someday.
Couple people use dachshunds for deer recovery here. Have to have a licence to do it. Track wounded deer/bear, pay them to find them, use dachshunds Lol!!
