The Old Folks Home

The busses we have been using are Ford E-350 based, powered by 6.8 liter V-10 gasoline engine. The new one is Chevrolet 3500 van based powered by a 6.6 liter Duramax diesel engine. The older ones got about 7 to 8 miles per gallon....the new one gets almost 20 miles per gallon.

SHOP ON penny, YOU GO GIRL :yesss: if it wasn't pouring rain, I'd go with you and carry the bags. I shop but, won't drop- I promise.

I handle dogs when we get home let them drag it all in but have no extra room we bought the KIA Soul like the car but miss the room of the dodge van .. We are not suppose to have rain for another week ....

We got a new bus for center!

That should last a good bit for you all less worry

Side effect was his eyes stayed open when he slept.
I don't think that is common, at least not now. My dad had his done a couple of years ago for the same reason as Cap. Trust me, he can "rest his eyes" on the couch with them closed just fine.

I am still stubborn and have a high threshold for pain
I think that is the Neanderthal part ;)

Seeing hubby tend to the animals...priceless!
And after you have the operation you WILL be able to see him doing it!

Best one is to open feed bags and dip half of the weight out of them. Moving 25 pounds is better than 50. He says and he could have a point. Still. We live on a hobby farm. Lifting stuff happens.
I put my chicken feed, BOSS and scratch in 10 gallon metal cans with lids and bails that lock them down. Instead of trying to pick up the 50# bag and pour it in, I open the bag and stick the can over it upside down. Then tilt the can and lift the bag. I doubt I'm lifting more than 25 pounds during this process.

Work smarter, not harder. Buy equipment to do the heavy lifting for you :D Let's see, perhaps a nice Mahindra tractor with a FEL or forks to carry those feed bags from the vehicle to the barn ;)

Plus it says I need to give up caffeine in my coffee. Say is isn't so!!!! Talk about adding insult to injury.:hit
Decaf coffee is good now, not like the original stuff!

I'm lactose intolerant and milk upsets my stomach, but I can eat cheeses and yogurt so not as bad as some folks.
DW is lactose intolerant as well. She uses Lactaid milk in her cereal. And yes, cheese and yogurt aren't too bad.

We got a new bus for center!
From "We are going to close your center" to "Here, have a new bus".
Things are definitely going in the right direction.

Amazing how much more mileage a diesel can squeeze out of a gallon of fuel, isn't it?

Reliable transport - BIG win!:thumbsup

Slowly working our way through the post-Florence "to do" list around here. I got the doors put back on the workshop yesterday (Florence blew them in; fortunately, most of the feed that was just inside the doors was stored in trash cans, so only a little bit got soaked and spoiled). Today I got the drain pipe at one end of the house untangled from an upended tree root ball. I've got a bit more to do before I bury it again, then maybe water will once again drain around the house instead of under it.

The school system gave the kids Thursday off for Michael, though it looks now like maybe all we'll get is a bit of bluster rather than the serious dose of tropical weather that most were fearing. Huge relief there, but am praying for those in Florida that dealt with the full wrath of that beast. I've seen a few videos so far, and it looks every bit as bad as had been forecast.:fl

Not one of my more cheerful days.

Woke up wondering what I could find about weight restrictions, etc. Not advised to lift 50 pounds. Not advised to lift much at all is what I read, especially with spinal osteoporosis. I'm getting a copy of the report but I remember reading that L1 was affected which is in the area where compression fractures can happen. Not happy, no siree.

DH, bless him has been trying to come up with solutions for me. Best one is to open feed bags and dip half of the weight out of them. Moving 25 pounds is better than 50. He says and he could have a point. Still. We live on a hobby farm. Lifting stuff happens.

I'm 65 years old and having to learn to do things all over again. I just want to stand on top of a hill and scream out my anger. I've always been so independent and yes, strong for my size.

Plus, I'm torn between needing to not carry extra weight and not falling below 127 pounds which is what I read is the 'danger' weight for developing osteoporosis. Women under 127 pounds are at a higher risk. I've been under than most of my life until after the 'big change'. RIght now on our scale, my AM weight is 128.5.

So I ate a cookie! With chocolate m & m's in it. Bought them yesterday at Hyvee and stuck them in the freezer. It was delicious! No guilt at all.

Plus it says I need to give up caffeine in my coffee. Say is isn't so!!!! Talk about adding insult to injury.:hit

Maybe I should eat another cookie?!:clap

I saw that operation on TLC :tongue:sick. I've never been a member of the itty bitty club. In fact I'm remembered in high school as the girl with the big rack....no lie. Yes, my shoulders have huge dents in them from straps but I'll be hanged if I would ever go through that breast reduction surgery..
Glad i had mine done, helped me with back pain.
