1st snow flurries for Tennessee predicted for tomorrow! Too soon for me. This will be my chicken's first winter. Right now they are all still laying an egg a day except for the occasional day off. Wonder how this will affect them?

The destruction in the Philippines is horrific! Prayers for all those lives lost and their families. Thank God you are safe Oz as well as your family.

We'll prolly just get a bunch of slushy rain here in the valley. At least it'll wet down the compost. One less chore. I'll make the flock a warm breakfast when I let them out...muck boot day, for sure.


We've been praying for the famiies in the Philippines. We can't watch much of it on tv because stuff like that makes Maddy cry. She feels so badly for everyone.

Today was our FIRST sticking snow (grass only) UGH!! It started as rain and then found I had to chip ice off the mailbox to get it open. It's in the mid 20's right now. Snow is okay - Ice is NOT

Oh please!! That ice better not head here. Heard roaring winds last night, awoke to rain, and an hour later it was and is snowing. Temps predicted to be in the 50's in 2 days . . . . another year of crazy weather.

We're expecting frost for the next couple of nights; tomorrow's highs are forecast in the 40's. That's pretty "brrr" for around here; even in January, it's unusual for the temps to stay below 40o during the day. We'll be back into the 60's by the weekend.

I am a member of The Kabankalan City Host Lions Club in Southern Negros Occidental in the Philippines. We sent a contingent to the North of our island to distribute disaster relief. 

In March we are doing a "chicken mission" to the Philippines. We will be performing vision screening and then giving education on sustainable backyard poultry. I will give away around 100 birds at that time.

Oz it is great to meet another Lion from so far away. I would love to join you. I missed the Philippines on my trips to SE Asia with KC-135s and B-52s during Vietnam. We will have our local eye screening in January. We support a local optometrist who goes to Asia and provides eye care annually. I assume your are ex military living in the Philippines.

I brought the Silver Campines that I preordered from Urch. I met him and his lovely wife Phyllis. I actually had breakfast with them twice! I also bought a trio of Black Orpingtons, and was given a pair of Bantam Mallards to replace DS#2's duck. They have been named Phill and Kay (Duck Dynasty) and are happy in Duck-Duck's pen. They will not be let out to be taken by a predator.

no I lived there full time for a year and a half was we started our adoption proces.

when it looked like it was going to turn into five years, i came back ti work but commute over every 8 weeks.

I still attend meetings everytime i am there though. we would love to have you there for the chciken mission
