The Old Folks Home

I don't bother with the multiple timers for my plants. They don't notice if they gain an hour or lose one - their days will still be 10 hours of light, regardless when it comes on or goes off.

If I didn't ride the bus I wouldn't change the time for me either.

They just lay there like fat, lazy, stinky slobs :lau

They're actually very well insulated as birds. I mean, look at the house they've been in... short of putting my wedding quilt over the front and a tarp over the sides when it gets below zero or we get a blizzard, they get nothing other than hay.

It will be nice to have a duck house that I don't have to drag a quilt on and off of. As soon as it gets above freezing, the stuff melts, soaks into the quilt, and then refreezes. Sometimes it's like trying to move a sheet of concrete.

It'll be nice to not have rats tunneling under it, too.

My biggest concerns are whether they will be able to get up the ramp, and whether or not we put enough air exchange holes in the side soffits.

I'm not concerned about them keeping it clean, because it just won't be clean.

You do very well for them!

The duck house looks great. But wait - wedding quilt?

Yes. My (ex) MIL gave us a mass produced quilted wall hanging. He didn't want it back when we divorced and I certainly didn't want to keep it. I got rid of that name as fast as I could. I first used it as a drop cloth when I painted the upstairs bedroom. Then I got ducks and needed something flexible to cover the openings...

SCG as long as you accept they will turn it into a duck toilet, you'll be fine.

Oh, Diva, I know they will. And they already have. I had to chase the fat stinkers into a corner and then heave them into the new house tonight. I do know they can get DOWN the ramp, no problem. One of them had nervous diarrhea within 0.04 seconds of being airlifted into said new house.
