My doctor just told me that the FDA recommendations for Acetaminophen has changed from 4 grams in a 24 hour period to 3 grams in 24 hours. That hits people with chronic pain (people like me and
@penny1960 for instance) hard. Personally I can't tolerate NSAIDS and was relying on 8-10 tylenol ES daily for pain. Doctor just juggled my dosage of Ultram around so I am getting better pain control during the day and taking a lot less tylenol. One doc told me that the ultram was better than the high dose tylenol as the tylenol was a higher risk of causing damage to kidneys and liver than the ultram was.
So......where does that put the people with moderate to severe chronic pain? Between the proverbial rock and a hard place.
I know the opiod crisis is real. I know idiots abusing drugs makes it hard for people with moderate chronic pain. I willingly signed a pain agreement with my Rheumy that I would not abuse my pain medicine and would only get it from one doctor. I know I'm probably an exception but as a nurse/retired, I really respect what these drugs can do to a person who abuses them and have seen it happen in enough of my patients and yes my co-workers (one of them who died from a fentynal overdose) to respect and even fear these drugs. My doctor is always telling me that he's worried that I'm not taking them as often as he wants me to for my pain.
Back to the rock and the hard place. I guess.
Enough of the rant. Thanks for the information, SGC. I am so glad that you are on this thread. I think we all rely on you.
Woke up to 2 inches of wet snow. I have pictures but am waiting for DH to get done working on my desktop.
@chickadoodles your husband looks great. Poor guy. Looks like he is pretty much wired for sound. Amazing how many tubes they can stick in a human body. Hope he got a healthy hearty meal and is ready to get out of there!
