The Old Folks Home

Dh is feeling better today. He's been up walking and sat up for quite a bit.
The nurse said she'd call the Dr. To see what he can eat today.

that is very good!

How are his nerves doing? Hopefully the pain levels will go down quickly

Couple reasons...
1. We are starting to understand that traditional opioid pain medications may in fact make us more sensitive to pain.
2. Many opioids are showing to be no better at acute pain relief than acetaminophen with an NSAID (like ibuprofen).

My doctor just told me that the FDA recommendations for Acetaminophen has changed from 4 grams in a 24 hour period to 3 grams in 24 hours. That hits people with chronic pain (people like me and @penny1960 for instance) hard. Personally I can't tolerate NSAIDS and was relying on 8-10 tylenol ES daily for pain. Doctor just juggled my dosage of Ultram around so I am getting better pain control during the day and taking a lot less tylenol. One doc told me that the ultram was better than the high dose tylenol as the tylenol was a higher risk of causing damage to kidneys and liver than the ultram was.

So......where does that put the people with moderate to severe chronic pain? Between the proverbial rock and a hard place.

I know the opiod crisis is real. I know idiots abusing drugs makes it hard for people with moderate chronic pain. I willingly signed a pain agreement with my Rheumy that I would not abuse my pain medicine and would only get it from one doctor. I know I'm probably an exception but as a nurse/retired, I really respect what these drugs can do to a person who abuses them and have seen it happen in enough of my patients and yes my co-workers (one of them who died from a fentynal overdose) to respect and even fear these drugs. My doctor is always telling me that he's worried that I'm not taking them as often as he wants me to for my pain.

Back to the rock and the hard place. I guess.

Enough of the rant. Thanks for the information, SGC. I am so glad that you are on this thread. I think we all rely on you.

Woke up to 2 inches of wet snow. I have pictures but am waiting for DH to get done working on my desktop.

@chickadoodles your husband looks great. Poor guy. Looks like he is pretty much wired for sound. Amazing how many tubes they can stick in a human body. Hope he got a healthy hearty meal and is ready to get out of there!

What does your Dr. say about cbd oil?

Woke up here to our first actual white stuff on grass only - some years we don't get that till mid December. House is really cold though, I try to cut back on heat to lower the gas bill . I am wearing heavy jeans with fleece lining, heavy flannel shirt with fleece lining and my Mad Bomber hat. Think I am going upstairs for a a third layer.

I haven't talked to him about it yet. I just got a bottle of hemp oil and take it at night to help me sleep. I figured that if the low CBD hemp oil helped with sleeping and took the edge off my foot pain when I get up I'd try the CBD oil that has a little more punch to it.

We have started using pet grade CBD oil on three of our dogs. Two that have arthritis and our doggo with degenerative Myelopathy to help him rest at night.

I think it's helping the dogs. Jury is still out for me. I haven't been using it long enough to really tell if it is helping or not. I looked up the stronger stuff and it was so expensive that I couldn't bring myself to buy it without knowing if it was going to help me or not. I probably will try it when I reorder. I need to start using it daily instead of just prn.

How's the fire going @ronott1? Are you staying safe?

I hear ya, diva. I had to take the ice chopper to the bird's water bowl this morning. Not that they are rushing to drink out of it. Those BO's and Welly's look out the door at the snow and rush to the back of the coop. I have to put a cut off milk jug of water and food in for them or they would not eat or drink.

So this morning I went out with heavy cargo pants on, heavy socks, heavy snow boots, long sleeve shirt, fleece lined coat with a hoody under it and a hunting cap on.

I love it when the roosters scold me like I'm an intruder when they first see me. I pull back the hood and take off the hat and their attitude is like 'oh, it's you, never mind'.

The red flag fire danger is over here. It is still going up in Paradise though.

We are under the amber glow of smoke and air quality is not very good.

I can tell if I am sleeping better using my fitness tracker. It is sensitive enough to measure light, deep and rem sleep
