The Old Folks Home

The hospital usually offers a couple of blankies....
Best take whatever the hospital will give you Chicka, as long as they aren't going to show up on the bill. If they don't show up, clearly everyone is paying for them but aren't given them to take home.

Good news on the pellets SCG, nice of the store to be only 10 days late :he

And it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. Not as bad as Alaska I know, but still.

Beautiful shot

We will probably go home tomorrow.[/QUOTE
Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Down to 4 bags of pellets today, so was able to convince the store that was supposed to deliver them on Halloween that I was DEADLY SERIOUS ABOUT NEEDING THEM and now we have 2.6 tons of pellets in the garage.
:yesss:

Spent a few hours working on my new machine today, this time with rulers. I really like that effect (once I got used to how to do it).

I am jealous down to just little green machine Viking Husqvarna 21A

That was my reaction to videos of folks driving through the inferno hopefully to safety. That will live with them forever - given the assumption that they reached a safe place.
I rembember during either the Cedar fire or the Witch fire... one family had a huge dog kennel... Raising purebreds... Notification system broke down a neighbor pounded on their door.... and they packed all the dogs in crates and got them into transport first then they packed their old Station wagon with crates of their own dogs... Wife left first with her car husband left last with the station wagon.... By the time they got to safety the station wagons wheels were down to steel... Everyone survived but its a memory that wont ever leave them.

SMH... I could write volumes about evacuation.... steps to take... but notification has to come before steps can work.

So glad to hear that DH is heading home tomorrow, Chicka! Great news in deed and it's proven that recovery happens best at home around familiar surroundings.

DH still working feverishly on computer. He bought me a radio as an early Christmas gift to do Digital HAM (called FT8) with and my computer, loaded with Linux is being a pain in the backside not wanting to hook up to the system. This morning he pulled my desktop out and is now in a war of wills with a laptop. Problem seems to be that the radio and the FT8 program likes Windows for some reason. Hoping he will get it rolling today. Poor guy has been working with it for two days now. I'm glad he has the skill, talent and knowledge to do that kind of stuff.

Me, I'd get out the .45 and shoot the danged thing.

@perchiegirl I keep forgetting how BIG Cali is. Glad you are in a safe area you and @ronott1.I don't think I could cope with wildfires very well. Bad enough worrying about the high winds that we can get here in the spring with severe thunderstorms.

Lost another BO hen. The one I mentioned recently that I was pretty sure had reproductive cancer. Found her in a corner of the run. Looks like she had seized at some point. When I picked her up she weighed about a pound. Just a skeleton with a lot of swelling and fluid in her abdomen. That puts me at 10 hens left.

At times I feel so bad and guilty. I'm just so tired of dealing with these birds (the Buff Os and Welsummers) and watching them die off one or two at a time to the point that I just wish they would go away. The bantams are doing so well as is my Fayoumis hen and I want to concentrate on them. It's time to send the standard sized birds to freezer camp..

Told DH that when this cold weather broke next week I would talk to a local butcher about them. Plus that would only give me one coop to deal with over the winter months.

I feel guilty because having made this decision, I feel relieved.:hit
It is ok, you just have to do the best you can with what you have. Hugs.

Hello, Old Folks! What's shakin'?! I have been on hold for a long time. Nothing exciting to report. Well, I bought another house. That makes three, one we live in, one we rent, and now, one we are remodeling. I think I will rent it a while and then sell it. I am still doing my part time delivery job and enjoying my chickens. I put all my liquid assets in the new house, so chicken shows had to be skipped. Today is the Ohio Nationals in Columbus and I have been missing being there all day today. I won't make that mistake again. I won't miss another one for a long time. I will be going to the Dixie Classic show in Knoxville, Tennessee the first of December. I found that the shows are more important to me than I realized.
