How is the DH doing with back surgery recovery?

He's doing great! He's bored to death and has a bad case of houseatosis!
He goes back for another check up on the 19th. And will go back to work after the
first of the year. His company closes for the rest of the month for the holidays.

I keep wondering how these hens can live to be 10+ years old, lay an egg daily and not succumb to reproductive cancers like a lot of production hens.

Because they don't lay an egg per day, not even their first year. Not according to several sites I found. Figure a range of 150 -250/year. Whether they continue to lay well far into old age was not mentioned.

Up to you. I'd say even at <$2/gallon with the mileage your truck gets, that will be a pretty expensive PCS. Can't say I've had any food that I would drive 80 miles for. And that is ASSUMING the 80 miles is round trip.

Okey-dokey. Medium eggs. What I found with the 55 Flowery Hens is that everybody got their stock from Greenfire. So if you bought eggs from here and there, you still don't get much genetic diversity. It could be the same with the Deathlayers.
