The Old Folks Home

You have pretty old hardware there, I don't think they have put ball floats in toilets for decades. Doesn't mean they don't work though. Seems your problem is only the flush area not the fill. It is running (as you have figure out) because water is leaking out of the tank and into the toilet.

Don't usually use sealant, the gasket is held down by the plastic nut that is threaded around the fill tube. Maybe it just needs to be screwed down a bit tighter?

From the look of it, you might have one of these, I've not seen one before. I think it would have a nut on the underside of the tank, not shown here:

Can you see a plastic nut between the tank and the bowl? If so, can you tighten it while holding the part inside the toilet so it doesn't turn and lose the proper angle to the flush lever?

I don't think that will work with what SGC has in her tank.
I think you are right!

I would replace all of it though and go dual flush

Or not! I have 2 toilets in the rental house (or old house). Both the same age. I put a dual flush in the master bath some years ago. Like to save water even though there is no meter, it's just an ecology/no waste thing with me. NO problems. Put one in the half bath downstairs. Worked OK for a while then started leaking into the toilet like SCG's. Couldn't get it to stop so replaced the flush part. Worked OK then got the "toilet running for a few seconds every x minutes" thing agin. Gave up on the expensive dual flush and put in the cheap regular flush valve. No problem any more.

Wow, been through the...trying to stop the noisy toilet. Been a while. I so remember bending the rod on the floating bulb. ....Wow, crazy day yesterdsy trying to get Lisa taken care of. Long story short. Someone let her go to her work . . I was so ticked. Sure enough, when the gal at work saw her, asked why she was there. Had to help her through a lot of being sick cleaning her up before calling and telling those people to come take her home. When I found out...I had some talking to do. She is so sick. She is now in stage 5 kidney failure. I called Drs. office ..Nephrologist..talked with his assistant. Told her I had heard three different opinions going on with Lisa..most concerning. Not eating. Can't keep fluids in her..sleeping sleeping, sleeping. This assistant called the Dr. He said to get her to the hospital. Thank heavens. They say her kidney function is still ok to be home. They did find a UTI. She has an appointment on Monday with the Nephrologist. She dropped so much in less than a week..to a 6. ..I'm sure hoping they put that port in. She isn't going to make it 3 more months waiting for that fishula to be ready! Went to visit her today. She had , I would guess, 5 or 6 blankets on. Asked, where is your kitty blanket? The one SCG made for her. She says in a sad voice, I don't know, I haven't seen it since I moved here. They moved her a few months back. I found someone, Lisa actually walked with us. She knew just the very cabinets for them to check. Second cabinet opens, she sees it! She grabs it, turns, and walks back to her room. :) She now has around 6 blankets on. She's always cold.. kidney failure does that. Oh man, it's good to show up at her place every now and again to keep things straight..and..phone calls to the head nurse!

We have three toilets here and I have converted two to dual flush. I replaced the third toilet with a dual flush toilet from Costco. It had more problems than the other ones. I have replaced two seals in it so far. I think it is about 8 years old. Costco covered the cost both times.

We have very expensive water here. My water and sewer will be over 125 for this month and that is the lowest it will be. It will go up another 5% this summer too

That is terrible!

It is good that you are able to help her

Almost said good morning but heck, time to go to bed so before I say good night.........

Spent today playing shuflle the rooster. My last standard sized roo, a Welly boy named Doc, is in 7th heaven. He has 10 hens all to himself. Heard him crow today for the first time in over a year. He's a smart bird. All he had to do was sit on his roost bar and wait for attrition to make him top rooster.

Latest labs are in. I get copies sent to our home address for DH since he's officially my eye care provider, or Doctor Honey as I call him. Now I find out I have mild anemia and a low white count. Wondered why although I feel good, I'm tired and cold all the time. I haven't heard from the Rheumy or DO so I guess I'm not on death's door stop. Just uncomfortable and yawning a lot, LOL.

We have below 0 temps heading our way after 1-3 inches of snow expected tomorrow. It's March. And yes I know, snow and sub 0 temps are all the norm for a lot of folks but not for us Missourians in March.

On a brighter note. By this time next week, temps in the 50s. Yay!

As for toilets. Has anybody ever tried cleaning water deposits out of their toild tank by dumping 2-4 denture cleanser tablets in the tank after it has filled and let it set overnight? I do that regularly, or try to but if the inner works start behaving a bit wonky and not seating right, I give it the denture tablet treatment. It really does work.

So now I really will say g'night!
