The Old Folks Home

That's all I need to know. How many woolies would you put in with a flannel sheet set
(just full size)????
I keep 6 in there all the time.

We did have a couple more but the cats got to them!

I need to catch up with everyone but I wanted to make a quick post and tell you all about the past two days.

Yesterday, DH went down the road to one of our Amish neighbors to get parts for my tiller and came home super upset. He had mentioned to them that we had lost our cattle dog before Christmas and they spoke up and said that they had a litter of red heelers and would he like to see them. Of course he said yes. They lead him back to the pen and he encountered 5 mud balls with legs and tails. He said the were adorable what had upset him was the fact that they had tossed in a dead kid for the puppies to eat. They are about 12 weeks old. The boy taking care of them said that they had tried to take them to the pound as they couldn't find homes for them but the pound was full up so they still had them and yes, they are purebred.

DH came home and was so upset he couldn't sleep last night. I wasn't sure what to do either and told him I was going to sleep on it and let my little inner voice speak to me. I did and woke up this morning and asked DH what he thought. He said, 'how do we choose one or two knowing that the other three will wind up being killed and tossed in a ditch or worse?' I just shrugged and said 'We don't choose.' He gave me a puzzled look and as I gulped down coffee I said 'We don't choose, we take them all. We rescue them!' He immediately perked up and we went into action. Quick breakfast, jumped in the van and drove down the road. Long story short. Babies were cleaner, but smelled like dead goat. No dog food in the pen, water and a dog house for them. He said he would take 15 dollars apiece for them, but if we took two 10$ I just said 'what if we take all 5?' he said 5$ apiece.

Okay, we are insane. We loaded all 5 puppies in the van, ran into town for puppy food, collars and chew toys and now we have 5 Australian Cattle dogs in my brooder room waiting for their first baths. They go to the vets tomorrow for first shots and worming (they were feeding them raw rabbit) Are we going to keep them all? At least two but I tell ya, it's hard not to love these little turds. 4 Males 1 female. We've named two. Murphy and Ben.

Pictures to follow.

thanks Ron. That's why I had dogs NOT cats. They also never pushed things to see how they landed.
The landing part is fine on the dryer balls, it is the ripping them up that ruined them!

Since cats have sticky tongues, the had to be helped to get the wool bits out of their mouths
