The Old Folks Home

I agree with the TV and movies for escapism. We don't have satellite or cable but we do have Amazon Prime and we download movies overnight using free bonus time and then watch them in the evening. Where we live we get 6 TV stations out of Kirksville who gets them out of Iowa.

Morning all. Sun is out bright today but it's only 60 degrees and not expected to warm up till next Tuesday. Temps are 10-15 degrees below normal. Still the sun is out so no complaints. Maybe I can get some work done on cleaning the coops today or at least get enough out of the big coop that I can get the pen set up for the Fayoumi's.

Still trying to figure out my lethal gene problem. May never figure it out. Only possibility I can figure out is that maybe the hatchery that bred the OEGB chicks that I bought from Orschelns have some Japanese Bantam cross in them somewhere that is producing the recessive lethal gene. My boys are definitely OEGB as they don't have the all black wing feathers of the Grey Japanese bantam Roosters. So who knows. Ya pays your money and ya takes your chances as they say.

Y'all have a great Friday!

Thanks Bunny, that's a relief. I was reading about it last night. Went out today and took a good look at everyone. No short legs on anyone so I'm back to square one.

Got my broody hen and her eggs moved to a bigger pen. I named her Screech. She has been trying to go broody for a month and has spent two time outs in the broody buster to no avail. She's a funny girl. One night after I let her out of the broody buster, she was on the roost bar glaring at me. When I finally looked at her she was still giving me the stink eye and when I said "WHAT?" she opened her beak as wide as she could and let out this full throated broody screech. I told DH that must be what a true raptor looked like in full scream. Impressive. I have no doubt that if they weighed as much as a small horse they'd try to eat us if given a chance.

Hi, I've been poking around here asking questions and generally browsing threads that seem interesting to me. Everyone has been very helpful and I've learned a lot, but I didn't feel like I had friends here yet. I'm hoping that this will be the place where I will find new friends.

My name is Liz and I live where nobody uninvited can find me. I was raised in a suburban upper middle class neighborhood. I was never comfortable among those people and their ways. I've been a country bumpkin from the get-go. I achieved my goal. I am 68 years old but have a lot of life left in me.

I have 5 dogs down from 8. They have access to indoors or outdoors. I keep and breed Angelfish and Discus as a hobby as well as having two planted tanks. I have a 30 year old failed race horse who became a western pleasure horse. She is still fit and beautiful. I have one cat who rules the roost. Last and most important, I have 7 laying hens and a rooster (Light Brahma's) twelve Light Brahma sub adults, five Delaware pullets, one Delaware sub adult rooster, and my pet. a rescued Cornish X that fell off the truck on the way to the processor.
