The Old Folks Home

Isnt her hubs a Doctor? If it were me Id clean the heck out of it and bandage it well. any sign of puffy skin or infection I would put it in an Epsom salts soak.

My mom had something similar with her arm... I told her to soak it but she didint. when she went to the ER... They said the Epsom Salts would have helped at the initial sign.... but not later. the infection spreat up to her shoulder puffy and red.

They could find no infection in her blood nor at the site through biopsy.... A specialist was called in and They put her on HEAVY iV Antibiotics.... it was an infection of the fat cells called Celulitis...

They got it cleared up... and no not even my suggestions would have worked.

A person from church had cellulitis while being treated for multiple melanoma. They got it under control last week and Se will be going on to more chemo therapy. The Family is moving to Texas and will be getting one of the new immune therapies for the illness in a month or two.

Some of the Cancers are starting to get much better treatment

Peroxide will mess up sensitive skin. Applying bleach to a bite wound, should not. I'm not saying take a bath in it. You're not the first to claim it would be horrible on your skin, but found out it's not. Alcohol, peroxide, antibiotic ointment won't do the job that is needed for a bite wound.
I have had bad reactions to bleach though. Even bleached clothes will get me. It is not a good thing to have skin like mine!

Oh, it works on saltwater catfish stab wounds too. Yes, I actually learned this from a doctor. He also taught me to wash my hands, put clean warm water in a bowl, slowly pour plain salt into the warm water, stirring it with my finger, until no more salt would dissolve, then take a cotton ball, and put the soaked cotton ball on my eyes to get rid of pink eye. It works just fine.

Ron, you can rinse it afterward, and apply triple antibiotic, or colloidal silver. Even if you have sensitive skin, it sure beats the alternatives. People have gotten cat scratch fever, yes it's a real thing, very serious infections, and even gangrene from animal bites. Immediate use of the bleach, is the best preventative. I'm not saying use it on all wounds. I'm not saying to bathe in it. Animal bites, and being stabbed by a saltwater catfish are more serious than most typical wounds.

Thanks guys. We used peroxide. DH has tons of it left over from contact lens cleaning. They all use peroxide with buffers. He squirted it directly into the deepest bite and yes, it hurt so bad I was on my knees in front of the sink and getting dizzy from the pain.

Yes, having a 'doctor honey' really helps. I even have suture material here and he wanted to stitch me up but I said no I'd rather leave a bite wound open to drain. This isn't my first go around with this cat and I really can't blame her. Cattle dogs nip and grab skin and fur with their front teeth around the back sides of whatever they are chasing. They can be frightening but we are hoping once they are spayed and castrated they will settle down. Dingo was great with cats. He loved them and two of the cats loved him. They would rub against him and he would play with the big male. We would look over and he would be laying on Gem and Gem would have his front legs wrapped around his nose and be purring his brains out. I don't doubt that one or two pups would be fine with the cats but 5 are all attitude.

As for the cat, she is what she is and when she isn't acting like a paranoid she demon she is a very likeable little cat.

Just got back. The black top into town had been closed due to flooding and parts of Kirksville had been closed due to standing water. Sigh. More rain this afternoon. I just read on one of the news feeds that there is a stalled out system sitting right over us. I have seen this happen before when I was living in central IL. It would be sunny all morning and then in the afternoon the heavens would open and dump an inch or two of rain then stop till the next morning. Flooding was bad from that system also when it happened.

I was in to MFA for feed and asked them if the farmers were happy and they said no, but then farmers are never happy so it was no big difference. People are reporting anything from 5.6 inches of rain to 4. We are still at 5 which isn't a record. We went to sleep one night and woke up the next morning to find 6 inches of rain in the gauge. We slept through it, LOL.

Bleach? Really? My first reaction would be ouch! I have tender skin also but I'll try it tonight when we change the dressings. I can see where it would kill bacteria fast but I was in so much pain from the peroxide that it wasn't even funny. Plus I'm out of betadine which is supposed to not hurt but it always does.

The only thing I really hate about getting older is that my skin is thinning out so badly and tears so easily. I used to have skin like iron but not any longer.

I’m sure your hubby probably knows what he’s doing being a doctor but is peroxide safe? Cause I just read an article that said not to use peroxide in deep puncture wounds? Idk why. Didn’t really say. Except that it slows down healing or something?

worst part of peroxide is that it kills both bacteria good and bad allowing for other infections ... hey Gargoyle glad you popped if if I had not said it before Welcome pull up a chair ... We love eggs for dinner do it often here
