The Old Folks Home

Morning everyone.

Well, yesterday was Hell. Hopefully today will be better. No, gotta go for my Prolia shot so there goes today.

Where to [email protected]. Hang in there, sweetie. You may find you have to adjust your diabetic meds to accommodate the diet change. Always good to need less of that stuff. Lots of good advice that I agree with.Hang in there and remember we are here and rooting for you.:hugs

@CapricornFarm and @superchemicalgirl. I love the quilts. Beautiful as always. Makes mine look like a hack job. I have 4 rows laid out and basted together. I thought I was done with the embroidering and discovered I need two more squares.:rantCan you tell I'm tired of embroidering?

Yesterday, officially Hell Day. We had 5 inches of rain here. It rained off and on all day and started with a constant downpour around 7 pm that lasted mostly all night. No internet although our HAM radio on the local frequencies was up and running. We barely had tv which helped. Lots of thunder and lightning but no severe weather. The area is pretty well and severely flooded. We are hoping we can make it to K'ville this morning.

I'm almost afraid to go out to the coop soon. Thank God for muck boots is all I can say.

Then yesterday afternoon one of the cats had made the bad decision to run across the livingroom floor while the pups were in. We have been careful to keep them segregated since the pups have such a strong chasing instinct that it never turns out well. They were trying to 'heel' the poor little cat who didn't appreciate the attention went into fight and flight mode which just spurred the cattle dog pups on. We tried to pull the dogs away from the cat and in the midst I encountered cat. The cat thought I was just another dog and latched onto my hand with her teeth. Yep, got bit and lacerated to the bone. One area needed a stitch or two but I said to heck with it. The weather sucked. I was bleeding copiously. We were grabbing dogs and stuffing them back in the utility room. The silly cat in the meantime figured out that if she stopped running the dogs would leave her alone. She seemed to be alright. Maybe some minor nips but nothing that was life threatening and nobody wanted to touch her at that point for fear of sustaining more injuries. Naturally the cat that this happened to is our psychokitty. Imagine SGC's turkey with teeth and claws and you pretty well have the picture.

DH got me patched up. I have an incredibly sore left hand along with scratch marks on my right arm. I need to get pictures of it later when I change the dressing along with pics of the quilt and hopefully the new chicks which are adorable. In the meantime I have a pretty useless left hand and antibiotics that I need to take.

Right now time for breakfast and a few pain pills.:frow Later dudes....
So sorry you got hurt!:hugs

Thanks guys. We used peroxide. DH has tons of it left over from contact lens cleaning. They all use peroxide with buffers. He squirted it directly into the deepest bite and yes, it hurt so bad I was on my knees in front of the sink and getting dizzy from the pain.

Yes, having a 'doctor honey' really helps. I even have suture material here and he wanted to stitch me up but I said no I'd rather leave a bite wound open to drain. This isn't my first go around with this cat and I really can't blame her. Cattle dogs nip and grab skin and fur with their front teeth around the back sides of whatever they are chasing. They can be frightening but we are hoping once they are spayed and castrated they will settle down. Dingo was great with cats. He loved them and two of the cats loved him. They would rub against him and he would play with the big male. We would look over and he would be laying on Gem and Gem would have his front legs wrapped around his nose and be purring his brains out. I don't doubt that one or two pups would be fine with the cats but 5 are all attitude.

As for the cat, she is what she is and when she isn't acting like a paranoid she demon she is a very likeable little cat.

Just got back. The black top into town had been closed due to flooding and parts of Kirksville had been closed due to standing water. Sigh. More rain this afternoon. I just read on one of the news feeds that there is a stalled out system sitting right over us. I have seen this happen before when I was living in central IL. It would be sunny all morning and then in the afternoon the heavens would open and dump an inch or two of rain then stop till the next morning. Flooding was bad from that system also when it happened.

I was in to MFA for feed and asked them if the farmers were happy and they said no, but then farmers are never happy so it was no big difference. People are reporting anything from 5.6 inches of rain to 4. We are still at 5 which isn't a record. We went to sleep one night and woke up the next morning to find 6 inches of rain in the gauge. We slept through it, LOL.

Bleach? Really? My first reaction would be ouch! I have tender skin also but I'll try it tonight when we change the dressings. I can see where it would kill bacteria fast but I was in so much pain from the peroxide that it wasn't even funny. Plus I'm out of betadine which is supposed to not hurt but it always does.

The only thing I really hate about getting older is that my skin is thinning out so badly and tears so easily. I used to have skin like iron but not any longer.
Yeah, lack of hormones has my skin very thin. I developed an awful wound once due to a scratch from a 7 week old kitten! Made a big hole in my left hand. I quit grooming cats after that.

I have very sensitive skin about some things - it doesn't tolerate jewelry of any shape, make or form. Have to wear a clip on watch that I attach to jean belt loops or belt bag.
Belt bag is okay because I have two layers under it (shirt, jeans). Back pack is okay too.

Can't wear rings, bracelets, belts, elastic waists, necklaces , ankle bracelets maybe okay. I only wore once or twice and the jeans covered them up - so why bother? Can't tie shoelaces too tight or it leaves deep marks on my skin even with the shoe tongue to protect them.

My throat, neck down the front etc. is extremely sensitive - I can skin write on it and within seconds you see the letters or design.. Freaked a couple young doctors with it, the experienced ones not at all. It's a good party trick though. PS I bite my nails so it's only stubs against my skin.

Can't stand cigarette(or cigar esp.) smoke. If I walk through the dry powders detergents in the store, I sneeze and cough. And YES like my mother can get tipsy just smelling an open bottle of "name your pleasure." No joke.

Inside is very sensitive also. Can't handle what others call minor spicy, pepper, most Bar-b-que sauces, any kind of tea,(will sink your septic tank). My sister is lactose intolerent,,
I am not (obviously - love premium ice cream, malteds, sundaes etc. My brother has to use almond milk or other substitute.

I mention all this because all you have to do is say you can't tolerate something and then all acquaintances want to prove you are wrong. They find out the hard way (actual reaction) that I am NOT lying. If someone tells me they cannot eat something it's fine with me. They don't have to prove it.

Good grief, DD, you actually beat me, and that is going some.Today at the Infusion Center, I was telling them about my suspected sensitivity to Allopurinol....or Methotrexate. They understood and told me I fit right in there because a lot of the people they took care of were "Special" people who couldn't tolerate standard drugs. They also told me about an alternative treatment for gout that is an injectionable drug that they are having great success with. They suggested that I try to get switched to it.

Face it, Girl, you are 'special' also!! I have trouble with a lot of metals. my wedding band is Titanium. I can tolerate silver as log as it is .925 pure. Anything else, even some golds will tarnish and turn my skin green. I usually only wear silver or titanium as a rusult. Being a fair skinned redhead has it's drawbacks.

I also have a lot of enviromental allergies and keep one or two drug companies in business with my RXs.

@CapricornFarm I cannot imagine grooming a cat, even our nicest tempered feline. I checked on our little psychopath this afternoon and found her hold up under a Christmas tree in the attic acting like her old psychopathic self. Told DH that we probably wouldn't see her for a week because she is certain that everything, including him and I are out to kill her. Granted with the dogs, it's partially justified but I would never think of picking her up and carrying her anywhere yet alone give her a bath and grooming. I'm just not that masochistic.

No one ever told the secret to grooming a cat place soap or shampoo in toilet, toss cat in toilet close lid Fast sit on said lid flush 6 times use broom to open lid shutting bathroom door as you drop the broom compliments of the dog
