The Old Folks Home

Wow you are a redhead. I always wanted to be a REAL one. My son is/was a true redhead no freckles but dark red (not orangey) hair and he hated it. When he was a youngster women would see him in the stores and say "gorgeous red hair it's wasted on a boy." In high school I noticed his hairline was receding fast. I think it was after he graduated college that he shaved his head. Boy that was a surprise. But then he grew a short, beard and I love it.!! He still has it. Makes me think of Ron Howard, he went bald.

At least shaving your head makes it YOUR decision.

You'd have to hit me over the head with a mallot in order to get me to let anyone use medicinal maggots anywhere on my body, Don't get me wrong. They do a nothing short of miraculous job when it comes to cleaning up necrotic tissue but Ihave two things that give me the willies. Roaches and Maggots. Ticks I just hate but the first two just give me shudders thinking about them.

Kdogg! If I'd seen that earlier I would have come to your house for dinner! Good Job! That looks like it was delicious.:drool

@bruceha2000 thanks for the chuckle. After the past two days, I needed it.

Got row 4 basted in on my quilt top. Plan to take pictures tomorrow.

Kindly disregard all typos, please. Hard typing with one and a half hands.

Night all!

Perchie when I was a newbie on BYC, I read about a rescued white silkie boy. It turned out he had a neglected injury and was full of maggots. The owner wrote a very detailed explanation of the treatments and results that poor silkie went through. That is where my information comes from.

I'm not certain but, I believe after all that time eliminating maggots and getting the poor silkie up to good health, the bird turned mean and he was either put down or rehomed.

Good grief, DD, you actually beat me, and that is going some.Today at the Infusion Center, I was telling them about my suspected sensitivity to Allopurinol....or Methotrexate. They understood and told me I fit right in there because a lot of the people they took care of were "Special" people who couldn't tolerate standard drugs. They also told me about an alternative treatment for gout that is an injectionable drug that they are having great success with. They suggested that I try to get switched to it.

Face it, Girl, you are 'special' also!! I have trouble with a lot of metals. my wedding band is Titanium. I can tolerate silver as log as it is .925 pure. Anything else, even some golds will tarnish and turn my skin green. I usually only wear silver or titanium as a rusult. Being a fair skinned redhead has it's drawbacks.

I also have a lot of enviromental allergies and keep one or two drug companies in business with my RXs.

@CapricornFarm I cannot imagine grooming a cat, even our nicest tempered feline. I checked on our little psychopath this afternoon and found her hold up under a Christmas tree in the attic acting like her old psychopathic self. Told DH that we probably wouldn't see her for a week because she is certain that everything, including him and I are out to kill her. Granted with the dogs, it's partially justified but I would never think of picking her up and carrying her anywhere yet alone give her a bath and grooming. I'm just not that masochistic.
Sometimes we put cats into mesh laundry bags to wash them. I once had to wash the CAT FROM HELL. It was no fun.

Thank you!!

deb, I saw a thing on Animal Planet where they were lab growing, and using maggots for gangrene, like you mentioned, but the one that impressed me was using them to clean burns. If you ever see what a burn victim goes through, when they do the daily scrubs to remove all the dead skin with a stiff brush, it's awful. No amount of pain medication stops that much pain, and they're in agony. They place them on the burn areas, leave them an hour or two, then return, and collect them all. They count them, so they're sure they get all of them. Overall, it's not that disgusting. They use a screen, and drape the person so they don't see them being applied, or removed. They then cover it, so it's not visible. The best part is, it's totally pain free. No trauma.

The other thing they showed, was using leeches to restore blood flow after various types of surgery, especially skin grafts. They secrete something that numbs pain, which is why you can't feel it when they attach. They also secrete a very small amount of blood thinner to that immediate area to get the blood flow started. Not only is it painless, but they were researching the secretions for future use as a mild blood thinner to prevent clots after some types of surgery. In addition, they were researching the secretions for the numbing agent.

When my dad had skin cancer on his nose, they took a piece of skin from his forehead, and grafted it into the area they removed from his nose. The first one failed, because they couldn't establish blood flow. The doctor had one more shot at it, and started a new graft area on dad's forehead. At this point my dad wouldn't even go out of the house, because of how it looked. I spoke with his doctor about it. Amazingly, the doctor had actually studied it, but had never tried it. Mostly because of how he figured his patients might react to the idea of it. He checked, and could get some. He agreed that at the first sign of lack of blood flow, he would try it. The second one took, so there was no need, but everyone involved was willing had the need arose.

A friend of mine's husband was a diabetic. He recently died, but while alive, got clots in his ankle area. They removed the clots, but could not get good blood flow established, and had to remove his toes, and a small area in the front of his foot. The second time it happened, I suggested she talk to the doctor about using leeches to clear the clots, and re-establish blood flow. The doctor was aghast at the idea. Instead, they went in, and amputated more of his foot. They didn't remove the whole thing, so he could get a prosthetic. If you think for one minute that I'd go through 2 surgeries, to end up with half my foot amputated, which could have been prevented by a few leeches, I'd go for the leeches.

I have to use All unscented. I can't use Tide at all, even the fragrance free for sensitive skin one. No fabric softener of any type. I've been sensitive to all that stuff for years. The only bar soap I can use is Dove for sensitive skin that's fragrance free. All other soaps will break me out to varying degrees. I can't use most scented type lotions either. There are a ton of shampoos that I can't use. The scented candle section of stores hate me too. I usually need an allergy pill afterward.
You are like we are here with allergies. My Mom told an aid that perfume would give her an allergy attack. The aid did not understand and wore less the next day. Mom had to explain that it was not the smell-- the perfume was not too strong but that any perfume would make her sneeze
