The Old Folks Home

I have a dot on my fake ones putting a lock on the door helps allot
have a roof company coming out on Friday

That’s a good idea.

I have thought about locks on the coop and run and everything but we don’t have problems with egg thieves or trespassers or anything and also the nest boxes are on the outside. I could put a lock on but I would have to install the hardware first because we don’t have any because we made the lid so heavy. The back door to the coop and the door to the run I could put locks through though because the run is a chain link dog kennel and has a spot for a lock on the latch and both the back patches have spots for one too cause we used a gate latch for the top of the door and one of those sliding ones for the bottom so there’s technically two spots. Though I wouldn’t put two locks on one door. I don’t think I’ll put any locks on though unless we start having issues. Makes it a pain to do any chores or anything having to unlock it every single time ha

Also sorry. I just realized how many dang emojis I used in that post. :hide probably look/sound like an insane person or child :hide was trying not to use lol or haha or ha or aha too much as I usually do (bad habit) and so replaced some with emojis and some I was going to use emojis anyway.... yeah.... ended up getting a bit carried away. :hide

:lau thank you micro, I appreciate that!! Been told several times over the years that it makes me sound childish or is annoying so I try not to do it too much. But in my mind I also have to differentiate when I’m trying to be funny or whatever cause sometimes it comes across as too serious or cold or rude or whatever ha idk. Can’t win :lau

Okay, just when I thought things were perfect with my coop.....I have another broody. Give me a break girls! Are they counting and discovering that half of their flock mates are missing? Are they saying to themselves, I need to make more chickens!? The treat lady has lost 30 chickens out of this coop in the last week and I hear there are 14 missing out of the other coop? Don't know where they went but we gotta get our numbers back up.

:hit

And she is such a sweetie. Every day I reach under her and take one or two eggs out that she has squirreled away under her feathers and she doesn't fuss at me or complain. Not even a screaming broody shriek or well aimed peck. She just gives me this wide eyed look like she's thinking. OK there's always tomorrow! And keeps occupying that same nest box. Guess I'm going to have to break her as we are coming into the heat of summer and last year I lost chicks in the shell with deformities due to the heat.

As for neighborhood thieves. Had somebody steal three rows of vidalia onions right out of the ground from us and had an Amish neighbor doing the 5 finger discount on gas we had in our generator. OH! Then there is the missing rake, pitch fork and garden hose.....and people wonder why we now have dogs with attitudes?:rant

OMG that is awful!!! I am so glad we don’t have problems with thieves here!! I do want to get another dog though eventually for the predators. Just to keep them at bay. When we had Gator we hardly ever saw any. Now they feel free to waltz right through. Stalk the chickens, etc. also even though we live in a safe area and the coop is only right in the backyard, I get nervous going outside at night sometimes lol and even walking around the house. :lau :hide

Love small town living. Took less than 2 minutes to vote but took another 40 to get out the door.
The missing dog returned this morning covered in ticks but otherwise fine, hay should be ready in 3 weeks (and yes I have enough), guy down the street went to Nepal and got stuck in fog on the way back ...

I should wear a sign that says you may think I look friendly but I'm secretly dying inside

And we are supposed to revere the Amish for their work ethic?
