The Old Folks Home

Perchie, I feel for you. Seriously. I went through the same thing with my dad. I would fix his dinner and put it in the refrigerator for him to pop into the preset microwave and have his pills in his pill cup sitting by his plate. My brother would check on him on his way home from work on days when I was working. I would come home and find his pills untouched and his dinner in the fridge. He would tell my brother, who stopped in around 5:15 that he was going to eat later....forgot. When I told my brother there were three choices. Either he took dad in and took care of him at his house (his wife was a stay home mom), I would quit my job and he could help with the bills I was paying with my paycheck. Or dad would have to go back to the nursing home where I was working as I couldn't be two places at the same time, couldn't leave him alone any longer and the stress and worry was eating away at my health. Naturally, you all know what I heard. Dad went back to the nursing home. I never felt guilty in the least and slept good and handled work better knowing he was being supervised 24/7.

I think one person pointed a finger at me for my decision. I simply asked them if they were willing to come and sit with dad for 9 hours a day, 5 days per week and one afternoon on one of my days off so I could run errands. They would have to deal with his incontinence, his forgetfulness, they would have to help him dress, bathe and keep him out of mischief when his German stubborn genes rose to the surface....The person hugged me and walked away.

I seriously suggest you employ the same response if and when you are met with comments. In the meantime:hugs. To you and your mom. You will both sleep better and feel better with this decision. Bless you and your grammy that she has you two to advocate for her.

@KDOGG331, Our vet's dad has a practice in Kirksville and they are both jewels. I don't know how many times our vet has waved us off when we got the checkbook out and said, no charge today guys, my pleasure. His dad sewed our late border collie up when she got into it with our two younger dogs. Sunday afternoon. He had us helping him in the surgery. Under 400 dollars. We couldn't believe it. Yes, there are more expensive vets around but these guys have heart and that is what matters.

It can be very expensive to go to the Vet!

It sure can be!!

Wow that’s amazing!! Sounds like a great guy. Guess that’s the difference between living out in small towns/the country where people know each other and near towns/cities/more populated areas with lots of vets haha

@KDOGG331 Are you feeling better? Hope so!

My DD, SIL, and grandbaby Frances (Frankie) left this morning. Being 14 months old, Frankie doesn’t adjust to travel very easily. Plus, she is 14 months old. We were exhausted! I literally couldn’t stay awake this morning after they left, and slept much of the day!

Thank goodness I’m retired and didn’t force myself off to my 8 hours of work, two hours of commuting! I’m liking retirement more and more.

Don’t get me wrong. I love that child. Adorable, sweet, so much fun. But there’s a reason we lose our fertility! Tiring!

Two photos from yesterday, my birthday. One little Frances and her mom, walking atop Killington Peak. The other, little Frankie on the move!

 You have a years worth of protein Shakes!?
in powder form... Big one and a half gallon container.... Two scoops plus eight ounces of water or Almond milk. Give it a shake and you have a 30 gram protien meal.... The diet requires two of the protien drinks per day to suppliment the diet.

You loose your hunger very quickly... so you stop when you are full. I just ate four shrimp from my meal from Long john silvers... and I was full... I will have to eat my salmon later.... instead of a shake.... hee hee.

It is quite an ordeal getting those eating habits back after surgery like that!

Whow, cashy. DH just took one of our cats in for vaccines (2) and check up. 57 dollars out the door including cleaning liquid for his ears. When we did the 5 pups it was just 257 with heartworm medicine thrown in.
Wow, you have a CHEAP vet!!

News on the Grandma front
Deb, that is FANTASTIC!!!!! I'm sure having people around will be good stimulation for her and that place is truly beautiful.

I’m liking retirement more and more.
Yep, what's not to like? Need a nap, take a nap!

Looks like their snow finally melted ;) They go to such stupid extremes to be able to advertise early and late skiing.

Yes, and while some people love spring skiing, I find that the slush catches my skis and I fall down, and the trail is muddy in spots, so you have to be a quick turner. At the end it’s only Superstar, so this gal is done skiing in March or early April.

[Superstar is a long, steep, expert trail.]

Its a chemical thing.... That part of your stommach that tells you you are hungry is the part that is removed.... Along with most of the pouch that processes food.

There is a symbiosis between extreme fat and the hormones that tell you you are hungry. They play off each other. So if you turn off those "hunger signals" those fat cells stop sabotaging you.

Its been my history that if I loose a large quantity of weight then I wait for the other shoe to drop and suddenly the weight starts coming back on.... I hit that fear back when I lost forty pounds.... Yet I didnt gain.... I had the surgery I didnt gain.... I lost more weight and I didnt gain....

I am still afraid to eat I am happier to drink water than eat.... I still like food love the taste of good food... But have to remember I can eat no more than a quarter cup once I am established in eating solids again. Otherwise I will throw it up or my body will dump it.... Dumping syndrome is when undigested food is sumarily dumped into the intestines.

The intestines cannot handle it and Passes it right on through. Been through it a couple of times now. Not pleasant your Blood sugar drops very low you get the shakes

This is what is what I need to manage.... thank goodness hunger is out of the loop.
