Lisa,I eat, or give away, all of my Marans eggs. I would love to raise some more, but can't stand to see those beautiful roosters go to the pot. I kept the best one from the last hatch and now have the birds to be able to set up a breeder pen. I know that if I had pure Marans eggs, I could sell or trade them on BYC, but I have no experience with shipping eggs. These birds came from eggs that I got from a BYCer here locally that said they came from eggs she ordered from another BYCer. I guess I should ask her if they are from a "good" line. If they are, I would be more inclined to build a breeder pen. I guess I could build it big enough to house the Marans and the peafowl..... hmmmmmmm......
Those eggs I gave you came from my cull black copper hens, they were crossed with one of three roosters, a blue copper, a birchen, or a black copper. They definitely would NOT be breeding quality. Now , if you want to just breed "dark" egg layers, they would be great. The birds I have for breeding good Marans are really nice, but I couldn't guarantee that the hens laying your eggs came from those hens. If the dastardly racoon doesn't kill any more hens, hopefully I'll be able to hatch some more chicks to replace my nice hens, as I won't be able to get any more from the breeder I got mine from until next year.
