SCG--I saw that report yesterday--today the model is different, or maybe I'm watching a different station . . . . the darkest coloring has moved south !! I was in the mid ranges, but now will get the full load of snow. Planning to keep the kids home tomorrow. ANd today is run around like a maniac to prepare day. It's New England.

I remember those days. Weathermen predict anything over 6" of snow and the milk, canned goods and bread shelves at the grocery store would be empty. I swore that the weathermen were in "cahoots" with the grocery stores back then because it always seemed that we wouldn't get as much snow as predicted.

I don't know if I am a liberal or not but I don't spank my kids. I figure if I can control a rottie by words and training, I can manage my kids that way too.

I had a little conversation with my 9 year old today and by the time I was done quietly lecturing him, he was in full blown tears. THen I explained why I pushed him so far, so he would remember this and never forget it. Ever. I never yelled. Not this time. I just know my kids and where to apply a little pressure.

My kids do more chores than most kids. THey contribute to the family and I teach them skills. THey can cook, do laundry, swing an ax, swing a hammer. Catch a chicken. And think!! I play with them and pray they will come home to visit often when they are all grown up. Maybe move back in to take care of me in my old age. I actually mentioned THAT one today!! Planting the seed!!

You may be a Liberal but you do take care of your children, give chores to do, do say NO and are teaching them right from wrong. That in itself is being to me, a good parent. Alot of young parents don't know how, figure the schools will do it or just can not be bothered teaching their kids anything. Glad to see some old values are still being taught.

I'm pretty sure I'm a liberal, but I say drill for more gas, so I can pay less. Stop imposing all your stupid laws that keep taking away my rights and pay Congess by the hour with no overtime. Matter of fact, give them the same benefits we get. And although the grandkids love me, my kids tell them I've been possessed by a nicer person than when they were growing up. My house isn't as spotless as when I employed them as slave laborers and allowance??? Yeah, I work and pay the bills, get your butts back to work. I did offer extra work for cash, but not often.

I don't hink liberals are the problem. I think it's the people who's parents read Dr Spock! I think they purposely avoid the fact that his own son commited suicide. Poor kid probably thought no one cared about him and was relying on dad to take care of him forever, because he didn't know how to do anything.

I do think I damaged my kids though. None of them own animals, collect classic cars or even go to car shows, but those grandkids sure know how to keep the houses nice!

I think it depends on which North you are talking about. In the Midwest & West for the most part we don't even worry about it until the wind starts blowing it into 6 foot drifts and higher. Heck we are more likely to see if we can get our 4 wheel drive vehicle to go thru that 6 foot drift just for fun!

I used to drive a semi over the road and I really think the difference in western 2/3rds is that we have much larger equipment to move the snow that falls and a place to put it (huge ditches).

I do know that it is a rare snowstorm or blizzard that will cause businesses to close down....actually I only remember that happening once back in the 70's....the drifts got up to 12 & 16 feet.

Wolf, you are far from a liberal, or the new meaning of Liberal. Not saying you are a Conservative but one who still believes in the country of old... The Missus was one of those Supermoms and it nearly killed her. school, kids, cleanest house on the block, college degrees and other stuff. That was before me, way before me. I got the too poop to care, hard worker because she has to be at work, but kickback when at home. If it was not for me being retired and doing the basic housework and alot of the cooking, this place would look like my room when I was a little kid. oh by the way, I love to cook. Mom had 4 boys before she got her little Princess and one day, figured she would never have to lift a finger around the house. We cleaned, cook and did outside chores. I could outcook most girls in HS and had to teach both ex's how to cook. smiles, I can also out clean most women. I think My Mom was a Drill Sarge in another life. One thing I always remember was, that my best buds were my Grandparents. It seems once you have Grandkids, you delight in spoiling them, just so your kids can see what you went thur. Now, on spoiling, you still make sure they know the rules of good behavior but you cut them slack that you did not do with your own kids... Or at least that is what my kids think. Right now, I think most kids are damaged, I am not sure what happened, by Spock and those new wave people without kids, drugging kids because they were kids and telling them, they were so special prob has alot to do with it... We as kids had to compete for everything, good grades, sports, even to be the worse kid. Now days, you win no matter what. That gives kids a unreal look at the real world. This world is rough and tough. ok, that is my feeling on the matter, I could be wrong, but in my mind, the young people lost the drive that drove this country once. We were commented to whatever we chose. Now a days, its quickie this and thrill me now, I want it all, give it to me..... what do you mean I have to earn it.. I AM SPECIAL!!!!! GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!!!!

Yup, we've been downgraded to 12-18 inches.

I've never seen panic like I've seen in the mid-atlantic when snow is forecast. They will close schools even if there's a 2% chance it will snow. People will maul each other for bread and milk. Up here, it's not a big deal.

Our friend changed his flight and is now flying into Boston in the mid-morning tomorrow instead of 10 PM to Portland. That makes me feel much better. I was a bit worried that he'd be stuck in DC.

I have chicks hatching today! Came home to one pipped.

Package stores... Do you have drive through liquor stores? Chris didn't believe me that we had those in Maryland.

No, we don't have a generator. I would bet that we don't lose power, and certainly not for almost a week. And if we did... my camera is a cell phone and my work computer is on e-power.

Pips... yeah... playing them some Sepultura... you know, to help them hatch. They got some Pantera earlier. Maybe that's what caused the pip?? Maybe they're headbanging in there
