All of you in that storm be careful!

The flash on my camera was not cooperating this morning, so the picture is a bit dark.

This is my Bresse Pullet:

She is in Quarantine.

Linda bare with me on your little tierras. My son is going to be here monday and I haven't seen him in 8 years! I'm a mess! He's going to wonder what happened to me. Anyway I'm trying to get a lot of things done so I can go out to the Bay to see him, but I have things pulled out I want to use and just have to locate the right containers with other things. I'm seeing tierras in my mind while I'm trying to get things done. LOL Oh and what size bird? I have LF, bantams and some Silkies, so I have plenty to try them on. LOL I'm gonna be real popular wit my girls.

Arielle, did your phone go off this morning around 3:30?

BF's went off first, with the BEEEEEP beeep of the national emergency alert. Then mine went off. We both shot out of bed.

I had no idea my phone could make that noise.

"Blizzard warning until 4PM Saturday. Prepare. Avoid Travel. Check Media. -NWS"

Thanks for alerting me at 3:30 that we have a blizzard coming. Guess I'll get up and prepare. And change my pants.
I didn't get a phone call --no. But then DH is on storm duty--read driving around in the storm for the duration

because he and his people are emergency personell, while all othe state emplyees are home, having a "work" day ( haahaa RIGHT!) at home. So He has been in storm watch meetings all week, and conference calls and . . I'm ranting, dam right I am ranting!! THe sacrifices of the emergency personell is taken for granted. He has been gone during every storm for 20 years. THank God I grew up in Maine and have a few survival skills.

He called about 1 to check up on me. SInce WHen has he ever done that ! I did bring up that I will sue the state if he dies on the job--it is the least they can do for his family left behind. ( Oh I am sooo ranting!!)

THe snow has started. I filled 4 5-gall jugs for chicken water. At least the horses and sheep can eat the snow if we are without power for a few days. THey actually prefer the snow over water anyway, so I have learned to NOT fill the buckets full as I just have more ice to clean out. THey are sooo considerate. lol

Yesterday was a day from hell. Some days just su---ck. A horse was injured. I called the vet out for the emergency and had the horse put down. Then called the backhoe guy who kindly fit this burial in his busy schedule as he is also preparing for this big storm. I forget how traumatic these events are and I was emotionally exhausted by 8pm and had to get some sleep. So today I get to cry, and wish I had grabbed some horse tail hairs-- too upset yesterday to think straight. Dang it. Will look for some pictures of her and have hard copies made to put up on my wall of horses. SHe was a sweet heart, and I'm hoping her son will be ok without his best friend. THey always shared a hay pile, and a bucket of grain. She only let him do this, no one else. I moved him to be with some other friends so he won't be alone. At least the storm will keep me busy for the next few days.

Oh, wolf, you make me laugh!!! I can can just visualize the girls modeling your creations!!

WOW!!! Arielle, sorry about your horse. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to Shorty. he is like a giant dog with me. Loves the other animals and is just an awesome guy. He feeds the chickens some of his grain, plays with the cats with his hay and follows me around when we both are in the pastures. I always hope I go first...

Also time for Hubby to retire or at least tell them, he needs a break or office job.. My job nearly killed me before I retired. Best thing I ever did. he is doing a young mans job, just like I was doing. After a certain age, our bodies just say enough!!! How many more things are you going to repair or replace??? I finally heard my body and did the deed.

Good luck, which really I know you can handle whatever is thrown at you.. Oh, good luck suing the State, they have no money. Plus, I or really the ex would have gotten 3 times my yearly if I had died on the job. You can guess what she was wishing for during each emergency or repairs I was on for days.. Why she is the ex today. female dog!!!!!

Ok, the sun is out, well kind of, still gusty and the animals are wondering what happened to Spring. The mud is receding and hopefully, everything gets closer to normal tomorrow.

Here's what our local weather man says about the northeast today:

"Blizzard conditions expected by evening; 24-36 inches of snow, winds in excess of 60 mph with gusts to hurricane force, widespread power outages, severe coastal storm surge damage, complete travel disruption."

Whew! I hope those of you affected can stay toasty and warm.

WOW!!! This weather just keeps getting crazier & crazier. I would have thought Sandy to be enough of a challenge for anyone in one year but to have this huge storm on top of it is about too much!

I sure wish it would have left more here for us in Iowa. We still haven't had enough moisture to take us out of a drought status and we have a lot more room to put those large amounts of snow and water with the melt. Both the Mississippi and Missouri rivers are VERY low. I am so ready for spring but I will bet the people in the northeast are even more ready than I am!

Thanks stumpy--

and tic-- I have spent 25 years worried about the what if's of loosing my buddies. Figure I"ve been lucky, until this last year. My horses are like giant dogs!! Sunny was so funny, when I'm trying to fly spray everyone in the summer she pushes between me and the horse I'm doing so she can get more ( attention). A PITA but funny too.

DH moved from field work to the desk: his truck and cell phone!! THe responsibility is killing him. On duty 24/7. I feel bad for all state employees, as there is no money and positions are not filled; the work is pushed to the remaining staff with no pay increase. ANd he still loves his job!!!

We are at about 4 inches now; will be fun if we can get 30 inches. THe kind of snow storm that I will have to snow blow a couple times. Govenor put out an emergency ban all cars off the road by 4, or face 1 year of imprisonment. We did all our last minute stuff last night, like fill up on gasoline. Our food supplies are usually in good shape as I don't rush out for milk and bread and eggs . . . . got my own hens!!
