The Old Folks Home

Only got about 9" on the flat - knee deep drifts. My neighbor showed up before daybreak and plowed the driveway. He takes care of our entire road - that's a GOOD neighbor. Just finished the deck, porch, sidewalks, finish up touches on the driveway and cleaned off the vehicles. We are set to go. Got off real easy down here. Good luck to you that are facing real accumulations.

SCG I am guessing the snow donuts are because of the wind whipping around the trees and such. You all that are cold lovers, I am exactly the opposite. I love the heat although dry heat is much better than humidity. I could go out in the mid-day heat when I lived in AZ and get things done. I DREAD going out to do chores when it is below freezing. We have so many months of cold weather here I feel cabin fever set in around November and doesn't go away until the end of March. I think I am getting acclimated though. Yesterday when I was trimming feet, it was probably around 40, felt like spring and I had to take my jacket off to trim because I was starting to sweat. I would trade getting used to this with 100 degree dry heat easily though. No frozen water buckets, no frozen hoses, no getting trucks stuck on a patch of ice in the dang DRIVEWAY. Yeah I would give it all up for some AZ heat.

My kids go to FLorida to visit with grandparents now and then--I do NOT go. ONce was enough-- to go from Maine to FL my body could not handle the heat. Fun to swim at a pool though like it was summer, but I've never been back. Kids are suppose to go in APril--I'm planning on putting them on the plane by themselves this time. Well, maybe . . . . haha

Yes by mid Feb I'm counting the weeks to spring = no frozen hoses. I think the answer is to not need the hoses.Or is that horses. . .

Arielle you know getting rid of the horses is NOT an option! ;-). I am send two of them off to NY in April though to be with my DD. I was thinking about getting one replacement but this winter and the feed bill have convinced me that three horses is enough (probably) :-)

So glad I get to live close to where I was raised because I do so much better in the heat. The farthest north I have ever lived was Nashville and being snowed in and subsequently iced in for 2 weeks at a time once each winter for 4 years was more than I could take.
(Hope that sentence made sense). Snow is beautiful and calming to look at and watch fall but a mess if you have to go out in it.

ROAD TRIP!

Oh yes, I did just invite myself! Two days drive with Stumpy, no testosterone in sight, Stopping for coffee and shopping, snow and SCG's cooking...I'm so THERE!

Oh, yeah!!!

As I've gotten older, I find the heat more difficult to bear, the kind which makes it difficult to breathe.

SCG I meant to tell you. Yesterday I spied a little turkey love going on between Jake and Edith. I am guessing that the hens should be laying in plenty of time for you to take some home. I also noticed that the horses are just starting to blow their coats. Spring might just be on it's way!

(Of course I say this with snow falling now

I can't even pretend it looks like spring here! Still snowing, but the blowing isn't going to blow the house down anymore.

I'd love to take home some turkey eggs. That's very kind of you.

My hatch got worse... I helped a chick out of a shell that only had a bottom beak, a tongue and two eye holes.

Not sure what happened during incubation - bad batch of eggs or bad incubating? Or ebay eggs?

I still have 12 very healthy wonderful chicks from this hatch. And hopefully a few more from Wisher in a few more days.

SCG two badly deformed chicks from the same source? I don't know if this is an incubation problem or a source problem. Have you looked at problem hatching threads to see? My gut says genetics/breeder problems but I don't know enough about the subject to be called anywhere close to an "expert". Kathyinmo or Speckeledhen might have some insights. Maybe you could send them a PM?
