Hopefully I won't have to wait that long for eggs Benedict or Disneyland. I've never been and really don't see it happening anytime soon.

Tick no the chickens wouldn't wait but it's a lot cheaper than a burial and what better way use of the body than to feed the animals who have feed you.
As far as the cats go personally I love having outside cats and there isn't really much the owner can do cats don't understand the laws of my property your property. Although I would make sure they weren't bothering the chickens but as long as there not you have free rat traps.
Scg hopefully your plane will be decent enough and you have a very safe trip.

Frosty start to a sunny day here. I don't know what was going on in the north end of the county this morning, but while taking the kids to school, I saw more blue lights than I've seen since the K9 training course moved from next door. Friday traffic is typically crazy, but that was crazy even for a Friday!

Driving past the U-pick, I saw they had the sprinklers running on their strawberry and blueberry fields. The plants were covered with a thick coat of ice, so the precaution was warranted. Hopefully they were able to save the flowers (and the potential crop). We can get frost as late as mid-April, though that's rather unusual.

After the traffic, I really enjoyed the quiet of the horse farm. Everybody was on their best behavior, too - even Henry. All in all, a good start - let's see what I can get up to before the kids come home!

Well I start my new coop today.It's going from 4x8 to 8x12. After hauling all the lumber yesterday it will be slow to start,I'm so stiff.I have my plans drawn up already but any cool/useful ideas would be appreciated. I'm still working out my interior.

The coop archives and forum have been very helpful.I've incorperated several ideas from there.I will hopefully be posting full examples on the large coop page when I'm finished.

Bunny, did I ever tell you that I lived in Wilmington NC? Waay long in the past. By chance, and yes, I am very serious..do you know any Smiths there? Sort of relatives. How do you have sort of relatives? Step dad, his family lived there. Some may still be there. Not sure. His brother was always called Bubba..so I don't know his first name. Daughter, Neil. Man, it's been forever..the 60's. Bet it's changed big time. Beautiful from what I remember. A lot of Bass fishing still go on around there?

I remember one year while there, it snowed..everyone was going crazy because a few flakes were falling. It never snowed there, so they said. I was used to snow in VA. Thick ice? Wow, the weather has changed since the 60's there.

My surprise has been delayed another day; now it will be Tuesday.

It's been out of my hands since last Monday.


Dad is being discharged today. I tried to convince him to go to transitional care before home, but he wouldn't have any of it. Hopefully he does good at home. Wish I could stay a bit longer to make sure but I needed to get home. Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers. I left at 3 am today and arrived home a few minutes ago. It was a harrowing flight home. While I have to say it was the most wonderful aerial views I've ever seen, I did not enjoy back-spooning the copilot (nor do I think he enjoyed my vocalizations in his ear) nor did I enjoy turbulence in a plane that is smaller than my sisters' minivan.





This is seriously the view from my seat. I am six inches from the back of the copilot. I had to straddle his seat. Including the pilot and copilot, there were 7 people on the flight.

I did not enjoy watching the pilot pick at his nails while the autopilot steered the plane. Through turbulence. He did control the plane during take off, descent and landing though, or I might have reached up there and throttled him.

The Augusta State Airport was also interesting, my house is about 5x bigger than it. You park directly outside the terminal and each night you get a ticket which they hang on a bulletin board beside the door for you to collect on your way out. Very small town. It was quite convenient, overall. I'm not sure that the convenience is worth the stress though. I think I aged 10 years in an hour. I could have possibly used a straitjacket in-flight.

SCG glad to hear that your dad is doing better. I hope he does really well once he gets home. I know how hard it is to be so far away from your parents when they start having medical problems. Don't worry too much about your epic project, going to see your dad and support your mom is much more important.

I have chicks starting to hatch today.

Had a bit of an issue this morning though. I was putting more water in the bator because I was having a hard time keeping the humidity up. After putting in more water I noticed that it was all running out on to the floor. I had forgotten to put in the paper towels to hold the water. Took the eggs out and put in more water and paper towels. Figured I would candle since I had taken the eggs out anyway. Good thing I did. One of the eggs had pipped on the bottom so I laid it on it's side. The chick is not out of the shell yet but now it has a chance to get out.
It is chick days at the feed store. I love looking at the chicks but it is fairly easy to walk away from them knowing I can hatch my own. Yesterday was really hard to walk away though because they had really cute ducklings (SCG your warnings about duck messes makes it easier to look but not buy on them) and turkey poults. The poults were the hardest to leave since they aren't BBW's. I do think that they are BBB and I don't need the really big birds. I like the smaller heritage breeds I have so I walked away from them too. I keep hoping to find my first turkey egg of the year though. Edith (the blue slate cross I have) keeps letting Jake breed her so I think it will be soon. The BR hen I have (Lurkey's daughter) hasn't let him mount her yet so she must be maturing a little slower. SCG we will have to send some home with you since I am pretty sure they will both be laying by the time you get here.

BTW-So happy about your Dad! I hope he and your Mom can manage.

Glad you're home, SCG, and that your dad is out of the woods.

I've ridden in small airplanes and in a helicopter when I was still employed by my Department, as part of a "ride along" program for dispatcher education. If one isn't aware of airship capabilities, one might make mistakes or not consider the differences in dispatching them, compared to dispatching patrol units.

Helicopters are exhilaratingly exciting, but I never forgot they fly like rocks if something bad happens. Luckily, it was a medical helicopter so if we had fallen out of the sky, there'd have been somebody to treat injuries... Hopefully.

Planes and helicopters can make it to a crime scene for aerial support much faster than one would surmise, as we're used to ground travel on roadways, not heading somewhere "as the crow flies" - and then tightly circle the area in maneuvers one wouldn't imagine fixed wing aircraft could manage. And darned low to the ground, too! NOT a fun ride-along experience, though, because bad guys on the ground have projectile weapons, otherwise airship support wouldn't have been ordered to assist. Usually, non-sworn riders are dropped off before heading into crime scenes. It appeared I was "special" enough to go with... Woo hoo! Wait, not woo hoo, but whoa Nellie!

Cramped quarters, lots of noise, incredible vibration, and the possibility of being shot at. Ahh, those were the days! Never to be repeated, thank you very much. Another reason to enjoy retirement.

As a Comm Center supervisor, I used to schedule new dispatchers for aircraft ride-alongs as part of their training. Routine speed patrol, area recon or flying blood products/human organs from hospital to hospital are much less scary aerial activities. Still gives ya a sense of the capabilities of an invaluable public safety resource.

But PAYING to ride small, commercial aircraft somewhere, sitting smushed up against the pilot's seat? Nah. At least I knew the pilots and observers and they were happy to educate, reassure, and laugh their buttts off at me.
