Be careful what you wish for...we're having some much-needed precipitation here, but it's brutally muddy, and it's COLD. It snowed yesterday and tried again this evening.

SNOW!! It's usually in the 80's now, on & off, which I'm NOT ready for, mind you. It was in the 80's a couple of days ago, in fact. There isn't any record of this danged weather in the recorded history, and it's great to have moisture, but SNOW?!?!?

Anyway, I'll be planting my veggies a THIRD time soon. That's what caused this, btw. I bought awesome seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom & started them, then put them in the ground right on our Frost-Free date. I never follow rules, and I'm being punished for performing contrary to my programming.
I just sent hatching eggs to KS this morning.

I learned my lesson years ago to not plant early. Got sick and tired of replanting. Memorial day weekend is planting weekend here. Only peas, lettuce and spinach are inthe ground now as they can take most anything.

I feel for you ChooksChick! We got that here Thursday nite into Friday. It had been over 50 years since we had a snow in May and then it was like 1 1/2 inches. This time we officially got 12 inches!

I guess that means we are out of the drought we had last year but it also means no corn is being planted and that means higher feed costs to the rest of us.

If you go to www.kcci.com they have a story of a guy that got ticked about the snow and decided he was still going to mow his yard. The picks show him mowing the snow. That stuff made for some CRAZY people here.

We lost power for 6 hours and I had 34 two week old chicks in the coop in their brooder. There I was at 3:30 am going out to bring them all in and set them next to the woodstove. The
water heater only works when it feels like it so of course I had no hot water to put in bottles to keep them warm and did the next best thing I could think of. They are all doing fine in spite of my care!
