On the way back from our daughter's we stopped at Wal-Mart so that the Princess could pick up some things. I stayed in the truck. There should be a site 'Drivers of Wal Mart'. It would surely rival the bizarrity (that should be a word) of 'People of Wal Mart'. Road rage in the parking lot.

Canaans I have seen are very nice dogs. I've never worked with one, but I know they have a good rep.

I'm with you on the Pugs. Never have thought they were cute and they are all over like Chihuahuas. Another on my never to own list. I loved our Pekes though when I was younger, but they had fur to hide the ugly where a Pug doesn't. LOL

I was just thinking. Maybe take the family to a specialty show or a field show and walk around and meet the dogs and owners. A lot of times we find just the right family to place a dog. I've given dogs to kids for Juniour Showmanship, or co-owned or worked things out with people who really where great people, but couldn't even touch my PQ prices. I know others do too. If you can find a Rar Breed show somewhere, they are very careful about who gets what dog, but they also promote their breeds and are very knowledgable. They try to keep the breeds as they should be and most don't want them to even go AKC, so they have their own registries. But I meet the nicest people at the Rare Breed shows. They aren't as snotty and will talk to you like a real person. When we were waiting for Isis to be old enough to ship to us, I took my husband and some grandkids to one near our house one weekend. The kids got let in to a pen of pups where they wanted to stay all day. MY husband talked about getting one of the breeds for years that he saw there. They were cool! Expensive and we were maybe going to import with the people we talked to, but never got the chance. He loved the Peruvian Inca Orchids. There's a fun breed to look up. Not what you want, but I've given you another to look at too that isn't anywhere near what you want. LOL
Good point. I was thinking today how my brother got a nice 6 yr old lab because she was being retired after 2 litters. Breeder limits the girls to 2 litters. My brother got her for the price of picking her up 450 miles away from a long time family friend. THe woman actually put me on to a breeder in PA and I bought 6 mo old black lab from her. TUrned out my husbands co-worker knew the woman in PA! SMall world.
Quote: I have been looking at the mutts on line at the shelters-- found a couple austraian shepard crosses. I put them on my list. $400 is steep IMO for a dog that needs a home. Lots of dogs shipping into New England from the south.

Quote: HAahaaa, I like the ability to turn off the protection mode and become playful. I had one lab that could do that. THe other would have showed an intruder around the house. ( So I got my first ROttie)

The hits just keep on coming. Augustina, my doe, died this evening.

I've got to find a home for Amos tomorrow, he's almost suicidal out there by himself.

((HUGS)) Did amos get to his new home? Yup, crap happens. Having farm animals has made me appreciate life even more. IT is tenuous and it is precious. ANd death is ying to life. WHich one is ying? Which ever. Sorry for the losses. ( hug)

Augustina is on her way to the disposal place. Something you never really think about until you need it --- where does the carcass go? The transfer station has all kinds of fees for tires, refrigerators, shingles, etc... but not one for goats.

One of my coworkers friends runs a butcher shop about 30 minutes south of here. She called him this morning and he offered to take her for disposal for free. BF is on his way, I couldn't go. I don't want to see it.

Amos is surprisingly calm this afternoon. When I got home from work a few minutes ago I thought maybe he was dead, too, but he was just napping. He never naps when I come home... he's always at the fence screaming at the top of his lungs with Augustina.

The guy I got my goats from is willing to take Amos back but he can't do it until Sunday. He can otherwise give me a doe in milk or give me a kid to be Amos' companion here. Unfortunately I wouldn't get a baby with the doe, and I was planning on milking Augustina only occasionally and keeping her with her kid, otherwise. I don't need a gallon of milk daily. I'm fat enough on all the eggs I eat. And honestly I don't have time right now. The kids weren't disbudded so I don't want to go that route, either. Looks like I'll be goatless. Which is okay. I guess. I loved the little stinkers but they were loud and obnoxious. But they were lovable and fun, too.

So then what to do with the goat house/fenced in area? It isn't appropriate for a chicken coop and we all know that I have more than enough chickens. Yes, there is such a thing.
