The Old Folks Home

I am sooo into chewing gum when I am out and about. Not so much while I'm at home.

ChooksChicks, that's always fun to get new furniture. Your house? Chaotic? Jumbled? Nah! How many little ones are still home?

I finally quit mine. Kinda wish I still had it, because I've migrated to attacking my cuticles.

I want to share with you all that I am typing this from my NEW FURNITURE.

I only had new furniture once before when our house was gutted by a fire when the kids were toddlers...and that was so worn out that no one took it off the curb despite living on a busy street in a big college town where broken stuff disappears from the curb before you make it back up on your porch. The giant dogs getting up on the furniture hadn't helped at all. This furniture will NOT have any animals on it, and I've threatened my kids that they soil it, it's sold to them and I'll be requiring them to purchase replacements. I have dog throws on the couch, loveseat, and a blanket on the chair...these have velcro to hold on the cushions so you can't flip the cushions over to the 'company' side...that's unfortunate.

*sigh* lovely furniture in the midst of a chaotic, jumbled, cluttered home.

I wonder if you attack your cuticles with the same vengeance with which I chew gum. I always feel bad for the housekeeper who takes out my trash in my office. There's maybe a few real pieces of trash and then 43698 pieces of gum. I usually try to wrap my own bag up so he doesn't have to see it but he's sneaky with getting my trash sometimes. I buy gum in bulk at Sams Club. I'm surprised I have teeth left.
I think the only time I didn't crazy chew gum recently was when I was in Utah. It was peaceful and I even shocked myself.

Congrats on your new furniture! I have "nice" rooms in my house that the doors are closed to in order to keep out the day to day dirt and riffraff. That's where the "nice" furniture is (although the majority of it was handmedown). In the "real" living room there's a couch I bought for 200$ at Mardens that the cats have destroyed the sides of with their claws. The rest of it looks nice because I have throws on it. We did purchase a nice kitchen table not too long ago but I'm still using the plywood table from my college years - it fits in the corner nicely and old habits are hard to break!

. I joke that BF moved in to supply me with furniture, but it really is true.

Arielle, if it is just the "reputation" that is making you hesitate on a pitt, I would tell you to reconsider the reputation. Yes they are the breed of "choice" for people who illegally engage in dog fighting but I would argue that is not the breed's fault. The few that I have known have been very sweet dogs but they were also raised in a loving environment so they never knew how to fight. Think of the reputation of rotties in the eyes of people who have never owned one. Many people are very scared of them because of their size and their reputation as attack/guard dogs.
Many people have a problem with me having rotties too. I won't go into all the conversation with my OB when I was pregnant. Just that he wanted me to get rid of the rotties. I cried for days. Decided to trust in my knowledge of dogs and my trainers. I would like a dog less stressful socially at this point. Until my kids are grown.

I've had a number of dogs thru my life. THe easiest was a black lab. I've read mixed review on labs being difficult to train to easy to train. THe rotties were easy to train and my last lab , well, he never did get trained, he was a loveable slug though.

Arielle no wonder they grabbed up that very pregnant dog, they only had to care for her a short time before making big bucks selling her rare x pug puppies. Imagine what they would look like.

In our area Puggles are very popular - they are basically fawn with black masks but, bay like a hound - a lot. That seems to be the only beagle part of them.

I had already raised 8 puppies and I wasn't doing it again. TOOO MUCH WORK!! THe poo . . . . . from 8 8-week puppies was too much. Ultimately I was happy to get the girl gone as with a house full of rotties she did not fit in. I worried they would run her over, or she would start a fight. NOT a friendly dog.

They sent me photos of the puppies. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I find pugs repunant. THey just don't appeal to me. So while I was miffed that I dedn't get the money for the puppies, I also didn't have to deal with whelping and the sales. :)

Chookschick-- how nice to get new furniture!! I always inherit furniture and that works because the cat always shred the arms. ANd kids spill . . . my goal is leather-- reduce the alergies I hope.

SDG-- if gum works for you, don't quit. Bet you could anything that was shoe leather tough!! lol

Arielle, Have you ever tried an australian shepherd? They are very smart and they are very good with people and kids! I have had a couple and loved them very much! Even in the city where we just wanted a family dog, he was great!
