That was not even one of the funnier interactions between the two of them. What is ironic, the dog will barely touch the dry dog food in the bowl in the house, but let me toss it out the back door and she sucks it up like a Hoover vac! I will also invite the hen inside to eat some out of her bowl (when it has been in there a couple of days, uneaten) and then the dog will stand over the bowl and eat every bite so the hen won't get any. Ha! Ha! Ha!

Hey, maybe I should try this. My dachshund just doesn't eat that well. They are mostly known for being little piglets, but this is one picky little guy. He is the same color as your dog..they call it piebald in the dachshund world.

Wisher, keep us updated on your duck! Man, I hope we don't see any coons around here. The worst thing that came around in the last area we lived with chickens were those ferrets. They would wipe out almost a whole flock at once, if not, then they would be back the next night if nothing had been done about the coop/run area. Learned the hard way about those critters.
Sorry about your losses..and hope your duck pulls through.

Ducks are very resilient. Each year I get a duckling pecked badly by my biddies, and each year with a bit of blue kote, the ducklings survive.



You can see in this picture the scarred area on the ducklings "back" where it was pecked really badly.

Is this an antiseptic, wound coat, or what? Is it available at TSC. Should I separate her from her chick buddies?

I'll give that a yes except for the TSC part. Ours do not have it. Yes separate her, clean and protect the wound with at the very least an antibiotic. Keep her separate for a few days at least.

I really wanted to have bees at our place but the hives just dont do well with the salted air from onshore winds. I may see if i can put a dozen hives in my buddies mahogany and eucalyptus forests.

well mrs oz is allergic to them... somebody has to collect the honey
