My sister was potty trained using M&M's as a bribe. When I came along my parents thought: This will be easy. They attempted to bribe me with M&Ms. I told them where they could stick that (so to speak).

My parents couldn't figure out what to bribe me with. One day we're out on the porch and I asked my dad for a sip of his beer. I always used to take a sip from his beer (just a sip). A light bulb went off over his head, and he told me to get in the truck. We went to the liquor store. He took me to the beer section and told me to pick out whatever I wanted.

I got Rolling Rock, pony bottles. We got home, my dad cleared out a spot in the fridge, and told me if I peed in the toilet, I could have a beer.

I ran off to the toilet.

The rest is history.

Potty training! Now you're speaking my lingo! I've potty trained a lot of little butts. LOL

I agree that you shouldn't push. And with girls the panty thing works great. My girls always wanted the little ruffled ones. Thise were their big girl pretty panties. They worked great, but at different ages. The boys I used a target fastened to the bottom of the bowl and they's try to hit it. My poor boys had a lot of girls to contend with and I's have to chase the girls off so they didn't laugh at them. I had been going out with my husband for almost a year and I could not get my youngest son to stand up and go. I begged my husband to please go in and show him. Dakotah has been very very modest and once he turned 4 I wasn't allowed to look at him naked while he bathed. Miguel would flash. hmmmm 31 and he would still do it I think. LOL ...My husband refused to show Dakotah. Said he wasn't his father and it wasn't right. I told him I would be staying home other than school and work if he didn't. Took me 2 days to get him to show him. Dakotah came running out of the bathroom with a smile on his face and says " Come and see this! It's cool!!" He was 2 1/2 and never had an accident after that. BTW, he showed me, not my husband! LOL

We've used a lot of things for all the kids in the family. Sticker boards, candy, movies after so many days, We made up potty songs! Ya just have to find the right bribe for each kid. That or take them to the liquor store to pick out a beer! LMAO!!!

Ours is to the song that people do that line dance to, at parties, you know, the one where you hold the waist of the person in front of you and 1-2-3-4-5-Kick! What is that song, anyway?

First you swing your butt side to side while singing....
"Tee Tee in the POT - Tee" (Emphasis in the "Tee" where the kick would be)
"Tee Tee in the POT - Tee"
"Tee Tee in the POT - Tee"
"Tee Tee in the Pooooottttttttt - Tee" (everyone pointing into the bowl)

"Tinkle and a sprinkle and a shake, shake, shake!" (shimmy shoulders then hand motions like shaking a maraca)
"Tinkle and a sprinkle and a shake, shake, shake!" (it's a boys' potty dance)
"Tinkle and a sprinkle and a shake, shake, shake!"
"Tee Tee in the Pooooottttttttt - Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" (everyone pointing into the bowl on one knee)

I guess it loses something in print.

Potty training! Now those were the days! When I was a child, I don't remember exactly when we were potty trained. I do remember seeing one of my boy cousins using the potty and after that I wanted to try to pee like a boy. My Mom had a very hard time getting me to sit back down to do my business!

Back when we were children and traveling from state to state, there were no bathrooms along the highway either! (I am telling my age) So going outside to pee, was, shall we say necessary! When we moved to NC, and rented a small house in a nice little neighborhood, I just assumed it was OK to go pee outside! My Mom was getting complaints from the neighbors that I was peeing in their yards! I guess I was about 7 at the time, and it was just really disappointing to have to stop whatever I was doing and go to the potty inside!

For a nice teenage potty story~ My youngest daughter at age 14 wanted a horse years ago, so I found her a wonderful, dead broke horse. She learned to ride fairly well around the farm and I figured it was time for her first trip in the horse trailer, trail riding with the horses. We saddled up the boys and took off for a Mother and Daughter trail ride. It was a beautiful day. About a mile up the trail, she said " I need to pee, where's the bathroom"! I told her "Find a tree, and pee in the woods"
She was outraged! She absolutely would not pee in the woods!
She never went riding again after that.
Oh well!
