The Old Folks Home

So as a fifty year old, we are adopting two kids. Our daughter was no longer pooping in a diaper as soon as she could walk, At 12 months she would say "ooma" and make a b line for the potty. it was up to us to get there the same time as here and get the diaper off her, At 2 she only wore a diaper in the car and at night. She recently turned 3 and no longer needs one at night.

Our son is 21 months of age. he is more than happy to have a squishy bum. he will be a while

Ok ya'll I had to catch up.
Ours is to the song that people do that line dance to, at parties, you know, the one where you hold the waist of the person in front of you and 1-2-3-4-5-Kick! What is that song, anyway?

First you swing your butt side to side while singing....
"Tee Tee in the POT - Tee" (Emphasis in the "Tee" where the kick would be)
"Tee Tee in the POT - Tee"
"Tee Tee in the POT - Tee"
"Tee Tee in the Pooooottttttttt - Tee" (everyone pointing into the bowl)

"Tinkle and a sprinkle and a shake, shake, shake!" (shimmy shoulders then hand motions like shaking a maraca)
"Tinkle and a sprinkle and a shake, shake, shake!" (it's a boys' potty dance)
"Tinkle and a sprinkle and a shake, shake, shake!"
"Tee Tee in the Pooooottttttttt - Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" (everyone pointing into the bowl on one knee)

I guess it loses something in print.
LOVE IT WISHER!!!! WE ALSO HAVE A POTTY SONG!
Potty training! Now those were the days! When I was a child, I don't remember exactly when we were potty trained. I do remember seeing one of my boy cousins using the potty and after that I wanted to try to pee like a boy. My Mom had a very hard time getting me to sit back down to do my business!

Back when we were children and traveling from state to state, there were no bathrooms along the highway either! (I am telling my age) So going outside to pee, was, shall we say necessary! When we moved to NC, and rented a small house in a nice little neighborhood, I just assumed it was OK to go pee outside! My Mom was getting complaints from the neighbors that I was peeing in their yards! I guess I was about 7 at the time, and it was just really disappointing to have to stop whatever I was doing and go to the potty inside!

For a nice teenage potty story~ My youngest daughter at age 14 wanted a horse years ago, so I found her a wonderful, dead broke horse. She learned to ride fairly well around the farm and I figured it was time for her first trip in the horse trailer, trail riding with the horses. We saddled up the boys and took off for a Mother and Daughter trail ride. It was a beautiful day. About a mile up the trail, she said " I need to pee, where's the bathroom"! I told her "Find a tree, and pee in the woods"
She was outraged! She absolutely would not pee in the woods!
She never went riding again after that.
Oh well!

That is priceless. I was born a country girl and when we moved down here and I met DH he told me while camping I had to go where the deer do.

I almost crapped myself!!! I even asked him if a snake would take that oppurtunity to bite me on the rear.

The rats were out last night, and again this morning. I flipped over a board last evening to come face to face with a rat. Yick.

After about 45 minutes of "cat and mouse" I finally got a safe shot off this morning at a big rat (I can get lots of good shots but the background isn't what I want to shoot), and I hit it with the .22 rat shot. It flipped over, I started to celebrate in my head, and a split second later the little jerk got up and ran off.

I'm beginning to think I should just get the 12 gauge out.

My boys were easy as pie. But my little girl is stubborn and spoiled. That is her daddys fault.

Daddy's little girl ey?

Man, it's been so long, I can't even remember but one story of potty training, and that's because it was a scary thing that happened.
I used to put bleach in the potty chair to soak over night when it was time for a good cleaning. I forgot one morning as I sent my little girl in to use it.

I was on the phone with husband, when all of a sudden I hear, coughing and coughing from her..as soon as I heard her, I remembered! I got up to run to the bathroom, but she was in the kitchen doubled over just coughing. I thought, oh no, she's swallowed some??! I picked her up, looked at her mouth, smelled her mouth, washed her mouth out, then remembered I had heard, take a drink of milk. She tried bless her heart through the coughing. She started to settle down, I went into the bathroom to see how much bleach was gone. I was hit with this over whelming strong smell of bleach! I started to cough and gag. Evidently, pee and bleach don't mix! Boy it was strong. Poor baby, she was sitting right there when the fumes came up. She hadn't drank anything, just the mix was wrong. I bet SCG knows a little something about this mix.
Anyway, only comet on the potty chair from then on..this was in the early 70's. And, my first child. Yes, we can blame it on the 70's.. he he..We only had Dr. Spock's books back then on raising children. Hmm, thinking he was writing back then, anyway, probably nothing in there about not letting your child go potty in bleach! I wouldn't have if I had remembered, I had that phone call, and I just spaced it. Phone call by the way, poor DH was wondering what in the world! I had dropped the phone, didn't even hang it up. He was listening to things in the back ground. I finally went back to the phone and let him know she was ok. She is fine today..no long term damage..thanks goodness! It was..strong!

ammonia and bleach = chlorine gas

Ok, change of subject of potty training. I got some SG/Silkie eggs to set. I thought I would ask here as well as on the other site, as to how you have incubated these eggs, if you ever have. I usually do pretty good with incubating eggs when the air sacs and fertility look good. But, have had the hardest time ever hatching the silkies. It's been a while, I gave up, did get a few here and there from buying those shipped eggs.
Any secrets I don't know about? More..less...humidity during incubation? Less heat? I thought I had tried it all, but maybe I've missed something.

they wont need training pants

I have to completely agree with everyone who is saying let the child tell you when they are ready for the potty. The more fuss you make about it, the harder they will resist. I spaced my two out by three years hoping that the first would be out of diapers before the second was born. As my due date for DS came and went, my DD was still in diapers. In the two weeks after my due date, DD decided she was done with diapers. No muss, no fuss just done with them. Completely without stress.
I do have a funny story about after she was potty trained. At the time, I was still in the Army and our unit traveled often for a month at a time to support training exercises at different installations. I was gone off and on about five months during the year. This means that she would only see her dad using the bathroom. One day he was in the bathroom shaving and she came in to do her business. She walked over to the potty chair, pulled her pants down and tried going "like daddy does". It didn't work out so well.

Fortunately all the years of having animals to clean up after have prepared some of us for this.

You were very luck-- count your blessings.

I don't use bleach ( much) I use as much non-industrial, not sure the best term, maybe I mean I use more eco-friendly cleaners as much as I can find alternatives. Soap and water seems to be under valued these days by everyone. No hand sanitizer in this house; only in lunch boxes because the kids can't wash hands before lunch--- no wonder our kids get sick so much at school!!

Yeah, that's nasty stuff.

Many years ago, I spent a while working for a pizza delivery place. We had bleach for use in the washing machine; the usual floor cleaning procedure involved something containing ammonia. For some reason, I can tolerate the smell of bleach, but ammonia really gets to me. There was also the matter of the floor getting grungy looking even though it was mopped every night - anyway, I had my own mix for mopping the floor, it involved bleach but NOT the ammonia-containing cleaner (I knew better!) It worked really well. Unfortunately, one of the other drivers had seen me putting bleach in the mop water, but apparently he hadn't seen the rest of the procedure. One night, he was going to mop while I was washing dishes. I heard him wheeling the mop bucket to the back of the store, heard him turn the water on, and a few seconds later I heard a lot of coughing and a BANG as the back door was thrown wide open!
ep.gif

I found him leaning against the back of the building, still coughing a bit, but he was OK. We dumped the mop water and let the place air out a bit, then finished cleaning up. After that, I made a point of telling anyone that could see me NOT to put the bleach in the mop water if they were using the ammonia!

We use a little soap, water, and Elbow grease. Too many antibacterial cleaners can cause super germs. I do pack sanitizer in the lunch boxes too. You were right Arielle I think we think alike. LOL!
