The Old Folks Home

Well, folks, at long last, I'm back...but I have rotten news.

My job has whipped me up and down the block for the last year or so, and that's in addition to having relatives here, being a caregiver, and home-schooling teen daughters. I'm strung out.

I have to liquidate. I've said it before, but this is really it. I have to get rid of everything that isn't legal within city limits, because the farm at which I have my breeding facility is also closing down. I have a deadline now.

So: I'm listing in BYC threads initially because so many of you are like-minded and I'd love some of my projects to go on...I'd like to get back into them eventually! I mean, these kids will be going off to college, and perhaps someday I'll have my own farm! Having a farm on someone else's property kinda stinks, really...I'd like to be able to go outside to care for all of my birds...not have to get in the car!

Anyway...

I have a flock of banty Cochins, which were moving toward Chocolate. I have a Blue hen, a Mottled trio, a Chocolate pullet, three black cockerels split to Chocolate, and a Black trio.

I have a flock of d'Uccles that were moving toward Chocolate: 5 Chocolate pullets, a split cockerel, a Black Copper roo, a 6 pack of Isabel chicks and lots of Black and Chocolate chicks.

I have a flock of Marans: a trio of FBCM, 2 Chocolate Copper pullets, a Black roo, a Blue hen, a Splash hen...and tons of chicks, many of them split to or fully Chocolate.

I have a flock of Silkies: 3 Black hens, a Blue roo, a Splash hen, and a White hen. Tons of varied chicks.

The Konzas. Here my heart breaks. I have 5 roos and 10 pullets and a bunch of chicks. They are magnificent. I may just try to keep them locally somewhere if someone around here will foster the project for a bit. They are everything I wanted them to be.

I have a Chocolate Rock project, but need to inventory them...

I also have a trio of Bourbon Reds, a pair of Royal Palms, and 4 or 6 poults of varied lineage.

*sigh*

Message me if you're interested. I will ship.
Wow, wish I had room, time and $$$. Good luck and hope you can continue your plans/goals soon.

Wow Chooks, someday, you will have your farm, I'm thinking right now, you certainly have your priorities straight. You will have fun with the ones you can keep in the city. I can only have a small flock, but I love them. I do wish that I could be on a farm, thinking that it's pretty much wishful thinking at this age, a little late for going through all of that now. Good luck to you. Bet you get your birds off to some good folks.

Chooks, I really feel for your situation. That's gotta be SO hard! Your resolution really puts my practices to shame. What practices, you say? That's the point. :lau

I just learned something about living with house chickens, but I'm not quite sure what it was. :gig

Two pullets are perched on the audio bar in front of the 46" flat screen TV. I have pretty much learned to watch programs around them. Once they get into their low, roosting positions, it's not so bad.

Anyway, chickens do occasionally watch TV with me. I mean, watch the screen, not just be present when I am watching it. Not all the time, just when something interests them.

The girls had almost settled into their lowest snoozing positions when something in the reality program I was watching startled some jungle fowl of some type. But the alarm call galvanized my pullets into action.

They flew to me.

THAT woke up my dogs, sleeping next to me on the sofa. I nearly had a heart attack.

I guess I learned the audio on at least one reality program uses real poultry calls

I am down sizing soon !! Aka canning!

Still looking at what supplies to buy, hate to forget an item and pay extra shiping to get it. I am eyeing who will be my first experiement at canning meats.

Oh you poor thing. I can see that you have the right priorities straight. If you have any trios or anything left after August 14 I would be interested. I am having to make a v-line for Florida to see my mom.

May I ask how that works? What do you do when they....poop and stuff? We had a wild bird enter the house about a year ago and I am STILL cleaning up the poo!

I have never thought about canning meats. We freeze and smoke and dry our meats. Tell me how that goes. I am real interested in that.

On another note: I AM DONE WITH QUAIL!!! I never want to see another quail in my life. we started with 12 and now within a week we have had disease, escapes, and a wild cat. I am down to three and one looks like it wont make it. I have changed food, gave antibiotics, built them a custom coop. I have never lost so many animals. I lost those two Bantams, from the killer chicken, and that is it.

If my husband decides to ever get me another thing I want a dang Emu or something. I know it might live. I want more chickens or turkey or peacocks. NO MORE QUAIL!!!! I told my husband that I will be participating in the next years Turkey hatch wisher!!!!
