The Old Folks Home

Quote: My brother sews, does cross stitch and helped with annual quilt making.

DH has two sewing machines, and I have a few more. I've been teaching the boys to sew since they could puch on the pedal to sew the pages of a book together in preschool.

I'm all for universal skills.

Dh cooks, but doesn't seem too interested in house cleaning.

My real estate broker was worried about prospective neighbors if I purchased the creek property, as the lot is "deeper" than it is wide, with the depth heavily wooded on the uphill side, on the other side of the creek from the house. And then the possible concern of chicken "effluent" getting into the creek. We already know what the perceptions of neighbors can do.

After our site visit, she was much happier. The property across the road has chickens, a neighbor two houses away on the creek also has a few chickens. I might have CHICKENS (as she puts it, with great emphasis) but I wouldn't be the first to introduce them to the neighborhood.

She said, "I can see why this called you.... It's quite a spiritual spot. The house is what it is, but that crick is fantastic."

She knows the ten acre parcel and shook her head. Too steep. Too much uncleared brush. Great deal for someone who wants to do major work. No septic, no power, the wooden barn supports are rotted, so it's not just a matter of putting on doors and slapping hardware cloth on the soffit windows to quickly make it secure.

But, before we write up an offer for the creekside home, she has something coming up -currently unlisted - with 10 gently sloped acres with a manufactured house and all the important stuff like septic, power, water, and a "seasonal" creek. We will go see it Friday, then make up my mind which to pursue. The elderly owners wanted to do some clean up before it goes on the market. There may be some wiggle there and if I wanted to branch out to goats, horses, pigs, or emus, nobody could say a thing to me.

So..... Until Friday, that's where I stand.
Having a dependable water supply is essential . . .what ever it is--

My neighbors can't say anything either.

Used to get calls about my barking dog, but now I have crowing roosters instead!! THe crowing starts at 3 am,; the dog would start at 5 am.

Seriously, neighbors are a real consideration. We didn't put ina bid on a 5A spagetti lot, and ended up finding this 15A lot for about the same price. Far more private here.

Looks like you are narrowing in on what will work for you!!

House hunting can be a real be atch . My son just bought his first home -townhouse(or condo I guess they call it in WA). It was a seller's market - many homes sold the day they were listed, and so on. Before he could chose between two - both would have contracts pending. Plus the usual buyers remorse. He had an inspector go over the place and I'd like to know what he did for the money. If something wasn't already turned on - he wouldn't turn it on himself. The dishwasher he thought was fine - leaked badly when operated and they had hooked it up wrong and so forth.
The garage door opener only worked once. etc.etc. So far the new place ( was a rental because they couldn't sell it) is a real money pit. I feel badly for him - no family way out there to guide him along and point out things women tend to notice but not men.

Wisher! I have a picture of one the chicks I hatched from the eggs you sent me:

She lays a brown egg.

There is another that is laying a small green egg but I do not have a picture of that pullet.

The pullet in the pic is the daughter of an EE named Angel and her dad was a beautiful BCM named Gregory Peck. Does she have any feathers on her legs? Angel was the only white hen I had and if the dad had been my EE roo, her egg would have been blue.

I would love to see a pic of the other one.

Mine aren't laying yet, but their combs are getting big and red. Soon!

Wow, nice close up of a raptor!!

I want to send my compliments to both Wolftracks and Airelle.. I just read your recent posts on the New Crazy 24 Hour Auction and the way that both of you ladies responded to some of the comments regarding the "Americanas" auction was top notch. You both shutdown the snickerers and nasty posts and eased the auction poster without insulting anyone. Fine examples of how to act properly...class acts.....WAY TO GO! You are two of the reasons the Old Folks Home forum is a friendly community of individuals.
